Job Summary/Scope

Performs difficult general maintenance work on park amenities grounds and facilities. May be assigned intermittent supervisory responsibilities involving small work crews.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment such as mowers trucks tractors chainsaws forklift bobcat boom truck and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks.
  • Installs new equipment and amenities.
  • Repairs and renovates all existing amenities facilities and grounds.
  • Performs mechanical and electrical work on new construction.
  • Changes field lights at heights approximately 90 feet above playing field.
  • Maintains and repairs air-conditioning heating and sprinkler systems.
  • Performs work on high-voltage distribution systems.
  • Repairs and/or replaces transformers primary voltage switching equipment lighting arrestors insulators and other transmission devices.
  • Performs inspections on load centers electrical devices and other areas for safety and safe operation.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Secures all park facilities and buildings as necessary.
  • Prepares material lists and order supplies for work projects.
  • Performs inspections of park facilities.
  • May be required to work with or supervise inmates.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required (Essential) Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Skills in planning organizing and directing crews operation of trucks tractors mowers chainsaws forklift bobcat boom truck and other equipment used in park maintenance.
  • Skills in reading and understanding construction blueprints.
  • Knowledge of general park maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical and Local Electrical Codes.
  • Knowledge of department rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work at varying heights including climbing poles at heights ranging as high as ninety feet.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates and the general public.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Drivers license (CDL) with Air endorsement preferred.

Material and Equipment Directly Used

Operates a variety of equipment used in routine maintenance including mowers trucks tractors chainsaws forklift bobcat boom truck and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements

Majority of work is performed in an outdoor setting where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold with high levels of dust dirt fumes and noise. Physical activity includes prolonged standing bending stooping lifting walking and uses arms and hands frequently. Must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 to 75 pounds and assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Five or more years of prior experience required to provide the required knowledge skills and abilities. Unrestricted electrical journeyman license preferred.
