GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Driver Examineris responsible forexamination work involving assessing applicants for drivers licencesin accordance withstandardsestablishedwith respect to knowledge vision driving and physical capabilities. This includes testing applicants for all classes of drivers licences (i.e. Class 1 to Class 7) and endorsements (e.g. air brake school bus motorcycle). The Driver Examiner is responsible for coaching educating and encouraging unsuccessful road test applicants based on the driving skills demonstrated during the road test to increase their chance of success on the next road test and ensure they have a positive experience even if they were not successful. The Driver Examineris responsible forcompleting interviews delivering Traffic Safety Education presentations and assessing driver safety when SGI Driver Programsdeemsnecessary. Work is performed at large examination centres small examination centres or from mobile units.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Driver Examinations
Administers and conducts written and oral examinations vision screening road tests for Class 1 through 7 and endorsements (e.g. air brake school bus heavy trailer motorcycle).
Evaluates test results andcounselsapplicants on areas for improvement.
Conducts visual inspections of vehicles used for testing for signs of safety issues.
Observes applicants for signs and symptoms that mayindicatea medical examination isbefore a licence is issued.
Creates routes for road testing in various locations.
Responds to customer concernsregardingexaminations and interviews.
Provides input into ministerial inquiries.
Driver Safety
Conducts investigations and interviews in connection with various programs (e.g. Driver Improvement Program Graduated Drivers Licence Fraud ID) makes recommendations and prepares reports.
Creates customized Driver Ability Assessments (DAAs) for individuals based on their reported medical conditions. The customized DAA exposes the applicant to driving activities that are not standard road-testing criteria and allows the relevant criteria to be evaluated. Prepares reports based on DAA results.
Delivers traffic safety presentations to large groups (e.g. Traffic Safety Education Safety Talks in high school driver education classes).
Answers routine inquiries and provides information to issuers the public and employees relating to driving inquiries rules of the road and interpretations.
Answers public inquiriesregardingdriver licensing and driver examinations either verbally or in writing.
Partner Relationship
Collaborates with external partners and organizations on various programs for driver examination services.
Answers inquiries from the public enforcement agencies legal professionals court officials and other outside agenciesregardingdriver licensing and Class 14 driver training programs or instruction.
Branch Operations Support
Manages fleet vehicles for location.
Advises on the space supply and equipment requirements of the examination center.
Recommends whether satellite locations adequately meet business and customer needs.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Knowledge of driver licence classifications.
Knowledge of the skills and abilitiesrequired ofdrivers to qualify for each class and endorsement of drivers licences.
Knowledge of written and oral examinations; sign vision and road tests; and endorsements for all classes of drivers licences.
Knowledge of driver examinations policies and procedures.
Skill in interviewing investigating counseling and report writing.
Skill inidentifyingapplicants signs and symptoms that may require medical assessment for driver licensing purposes.
Knowledge of driver education and driver control and improvement programs.
Knowledge of vehicle classifications Auto Fund automated systems and rating and issuing systems procedures documents and forms.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word and Excel) smart phone technology and other technical devices used in the role.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
Two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business or defined equivalency.
Certified Driver Examiner Designation from AAMVA (American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators).
Satisfactory driving record from Canada or the United States of America.
Five years of Class 5 driving experience in Canada or the United States of America with at least two years of post-Graduated Drivers Licensing (GDL) program driving experience.
Applicantis required toobtain the following licences endorsements:
o Class 1 license
o Air brake endorsement
o Motorcycle endorsement OR successful completion of all written motorcycle exams
EXPERIENCE
1 2 years experience in driver examination and/or driver instruction and customer service.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Effort and Environment:Majority of work requires light physical effort (e.g. entering and exiting vehicles ofdifferent sizes including climbing up intosemi trucks) and frequent exposure to unpleasant conditions (e.g. conducting road tests in variable weather conditions).
Sensory Attention:Moderate periods of concentration on a variety of sensory inputs requiring close attention several times daily.
Mental Stress:Some exposure to factors that would produce mental stress. Work may include occasional overnight travel in positions.
