Job Summary

Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta serving the education needs of approximately 17750 students in 43 schools. EIPS is recruiting a full-time (1.0 FTE) School Counsellor split between Brentwood Elementary (0.5 FTE) and Fultonvale Elementary Junior High (0.5 FTE) .

Brentwood Elementary serves approximately 425 students in kindergarten to Grade 6 with 21 teaching staff and 12 support staff. The school is located in Sherwood Park AB.

Three unique programs operate at Brentwood including the Elementary program for kindergarten to Grade 6 the Logos Christian program for kindergarten to Grade 6 and the specialized Generating Occupational Academic and Life Skills (GOALS) program for grades 1 to 6. While protecting the integrity of each all staff and students work together as part of the Brentwood family.

The Fultonvale Elementary Junior High mission is to provide a positive environment where students are able to develop to their full potential. The school promotes lifelong learning and continuous personal growth and development for all students staff and families. The school motto Feel the H.E.A.T. represents the basic beliefs of heart excellence attitude and teamwork.

Fultonvale Elementary Junior High serves approximately 450 students in kindergarten to Grade 9 with 23 teaching staff and seven support staff. The school is located in rural Strathcona County AB approximately 13 kilometres southeast of Sherwood Park AB.

A masters degree in counselling and registered or provisional psychologist status is preferred. Consideration will be given to applicants presently working on a masters in this area. A minimum of five years of teaching experience education in psychology or a related discipline with a focus on counselling and Violent Threat Risk Assessment Training (VTRA) would be considered an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Effective organization and classroom management skills
  • Ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe supported and challenged
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Experience or familiarity with analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice
  • Relentless drive to set and achieve personal and professional goals
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training
