The Parkland School Division currently has a Temporary Part-time (for new employees) or Permanent Part-time (for existing Permanent employees) EA Certified position (0.929 FTE) available at Ecole Meridian Heights School in Stony Plain Alberta.
The successful candidate for this Temporary EA Certified position will provide high-level academic accessibility support for a Grade 9 student with a significant visual impairment. This role focuses on translating a rigorous level curriculum into accessible tactile and verbal formats. The ideal candidate acts as a technical bridge ensuring complex visual data is converted into meaningful learning experiences. This temporary position is not eligible for benefits or leave entitlements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Adapt abstract level concepts into sequential easy-to-follow verbal and tactile frameworks.
Ability to provide precise descriptive audio-description of visual information.
Produce specialized learning materials including high-contrast graphics and tactile supports (e.g. raised-line diagrams PIAF graphics).
High-Level Academic Support:
Facilitate access to Honors-level content specifically focusing on complex mathematical formulas coordinate graphing and data analysis.
Support participation in scientific laboratory processes by providing descriptive real-time feedback and tactile modeling.
Guide the student through the interpretation of complex data tables and visual scientific models.
Apply specialized pedagogical strategies consistently to promote student autonomy under the direction of the teacher.
Foster a learning environment that prioritizes the students long-term independence and self-advocacy.
Education and Experience
Strong competency in Honors-level Mathematics and Sciences with a post-secondary degree preferred.
Experience with (or aptitude for) assistive technologies and the creation of tactile learning aids.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality while collaborating with a multidisciplinary educational team.
This position is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 5543
Hours of Work:32.5 hours/week (Monday to Friday 8:15 AM to 3:15 PM)
Pay Rate:$25.35-28.39/hr (Pay Group 3) for EA Certified Employees and $24.17/hr-$26.98/hr for EA Non-Certified Employees
