ThePatientCare Techassistsin patient care throughout all nursing areas.Duties include assisting patients with their ADLs transporting patients invarious typesof equipment and ambulation documentation of care and treatments done andobservespatients for safety and condition change and reports to appropriate staff.

Responsibilities
Delivery of Care
- Assistspatients with ADLs according to hospital procedures reports all abnormal findings and changes in patient condition tonursein charge of patient.
- Assistswith ambulation ofpatients anduses assist devices asappropriate toprotectpatientand staffmember.
- Assistswith restocking of rooms andmaintaina safe and clean environment.
- Follows all establishedinfection controlpolicies andrecognizesrolein providing safety to the patient.
- Obtain EKG under the direction of the nurse.
- Documents vital signs weights activity intake and outputs and ADL care given topatientin computer.
Development
- Attendsappropriate trainingprograms unit meetings and other mandatory meetings.
- Seeksto be involved in unit improvements quality projects and other enhancements to patient care.
- Effectively communicates with team members physicians ancillarystaffand customers. Verbal communication is clear and concise and written communication is legible and done using approved abbreviations.
- Uses Patient/Family Centered approachofcare ofpatient/family.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular reliable attendance.
- Employeemaintainscurrent licenses and/or certificationsfor the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAADNV OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g.Medicare and Medicaid)regardingfraudwasteand abuse.Brings any questions or concernsregardingcompliancetothe immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.Takesappropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications
Education:
- Must be actively enrolled in high school or equivalentprogram.
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
- Previoushospital or nursing home experience as a Patient Care Tech and/or completion of training in nursing school that covers Patient Care Tech type duties and/or must attend UPHSL Patient Care Tech Training.
- Previoushospital or nursing home experience preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within90 daysof hire.
- Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
