Do you have a passion for supporting families and improving community health Benton-Franklin Health District is looking for a dedicated Nutrition Assistant (WIC Certifier) to join our Women Infants & Children (WIC) program!
In this role youll be the first point of connection for families seeking nutrition support. You will:
- Assess eligibility for WIC services
- Provide personalized nutrition education to individuals and families
- Deliver care through both in-person and phone appointments

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Gather and assess information for determining health and nutrition risk factors program eligibility client education and referrals.
- Provide breastfeeding support and/or referrals.
- Document participants information and services and manage appointment schedules in electronic record (Cascades) to support the WIC program.
- Provide direct customer service to a diverse clientele providing WIC services issuing and educating on the use of WIC benefits determining appointment types needed.
- Conduct WIC program tasks such as generating daily reports and participant letters and making referrals to other community services.
- Participate in WIC-related outreach activities including recruitment events breastfeeding promotion campaigns and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
- Complete annual agency-wide and WIC trainings and ongoing nutrition and breastfeeding education requirements.
- Use Microsoft Outlook and other electronic communication tools to coordinate work and meet training requirements.
- Screen new applicants and existing participants for nutrition risk factors and determine program eligibility in accordance with Federal and State standards.
- Performs anthropometric (height and weight measurements) for women infants and children as needed.
- Provide evidence-based health and nutrition information to WIC participants. Work with participants to create personal nutrition related goals and follow up at future appointments.
- Provides nutrition counseling for non-high-risk participants.
- Maintain document and process medical and other participant records according to program guidelines.
- Perform first-line customer service duties; respond to inquiries by phone and in person identify participant needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Some knowledge of the health and nutritional needs of adults and children.
- Ability to provide basic nutrition consultation and to effectively describe aspects of a public health nutrition program.
- Demonstrated skill in performing client education with the purpose of supporting healthy habits and personal goals.
- Skill in maintaining working relationships and working with racially ethnically and socio-economically diverse populations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with English and non-English speaking participants with the assistance of an interpreter or language service.
- Effective written and oral communication and documentation skills.
- Adequate physical ability and sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care services.
The Requirements & Selection Process
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or completion of General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Eligibility for Washington State Medical Assistant Registered. Washington State Drivers License required.
EXPERIENCE: Prefer previous experience in a similar work situation. Spanish Bilingual verbal and written skill preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: If selected for this position the candidate may be required to occasionally drive during work hours. A valid Washington State drivers license the use of the incumbents personal motor vehicle when a District fleet vehicle is not available for use and proof of appropriate auto insurance may be required where driving is necessary to perform specific duties.
