POSITION SUMMARY
The APP Manager for Palliative Care will serve as a clinical and operational leader within the Division of Palliative Care and Geriatrics at Brigham and Womens Hospital (BWH).
This role combines direct patient care responsibilities with management oversight of a growing team of nurses and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). The APP Manager will play a pivotal role in collaborating with leadership across Mass General Brigham (MGB).
This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of palliative care delivery at one of the nations premier academic medical centers while maintaining meaningful clinical practice and leading a dedicated team of palliative care nurses and APPs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
Maintain an active clinical practice providing palliative care to hospitalized patients and their families
Deliver comprehensive symptom management advance care planning and goals of care discussions
Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the nursing and APP team and interdisciplinary palliative care team
Participate in clinical quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice implementation
Team Management & Supervision
Directly oversee and manage the performance of a small team of nurses and APPs
Conduct hiring onboarding orientation training and scheduling for APP team members
Provide regular performance coaching mentoring and professional development support
Complete performance appraisals and address disciplinary matters as needed
Foster a positive collaborative team culture that supports clinical excellence and professional growth
Division Development & Strategic Collaboration
Partner with MGB and MGH leadership to develop and implement strategic plans for the BWH and MGB Division of Palliative Care and Geriatrics
Contribute to the creation of operational structures clinical workflows and care delivery models
Participate in division-wide planning meetings and strategic initiatives
Support the integration of palliative care services across BWH clinical programs
Identify opportunities for program growth innovation and quality improvement
Administrative & Operational Responsibilities
Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and clinical operations for the APP and nursing team
Monitor team productivity quality metrics and clinical outcomes
Participate in departmental meetings committees and hospital initiatives
Collaborate with nursing social work chaplaincy and other interdisciplinary team members
Maintain compliance with hospital policies regulatory requirements and professional standards.

Essential Functions
-Performs all essential functions of a Nurse Practitioner providing direct patient care.
-Directly oversees and is accountable for the performance of a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
-Hires performance manages and completes performance appraisals for a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
-Orients trains and schedules staff.
-Assists with quality assurance programs as needed to help implement quality improvement efforts.
-Ensures continuing education and teaching for APPs.
-Acts as liaison between the hospital physician and nursing staff and other APPs.
-Ensures APPs are following proper billing compliance rules and methodology.
Education & Licensure
Masters in Nursing (MSN) (or) DNP (or) PhD Degree in Nursing required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree No.
Completion of a Masters or post Masters degree in Adult program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
Satisfactory completion of an approved formal education program which has as its objective the preparation of professional nurses to practice as nurse practitioner.
Current Adult/Gerontology (AGNP) Certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required.
DEA registration required and current APRN License to practice in Massachusetts required.
Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Certification (CHPN ACHPN) preferred.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider required.
Demonstrated progressive leadership experience required.
Experience in inpatient palliative care required.
Palliative Care fellowship training preferred.
Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Certification (CHPN ACHPN) preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong clinical knowledge as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Strong managerial presence and ability to provide & direct feedback and guidance to staff.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
