TITLE

Chief Artificial Intelligence Strategist

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategist serves as the academic leader focused on institution-wide AI strategy and implementation. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost with dotted line reporting to the Chancellor this role is responsible for envisioning and executing initiatives that leverage AI to advance teaching research and administrative operations. The Strategist fosters collaboration across academic and administrative units builds external partnerships and ensures ethical inclusive and effective use of AI technologies across the university. Work is performed with minimal supervision. Performance is evaluated based on the effective operation of administrative functions using the universitys performance evaluation system and in accordance with University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost with dotted line reporting to the Chancellor

Supervises: May supervise staff or faculty aligned with AI initiatives or special projects as needed

ESSENTIAL DUTIES -May include but not limited to the following:

  • Leads university-wide strategic planning for AI adoption and innovation.

  • Serves as a senior advisor to the Provost and Chancellor on matters involving AI technologies and institutional transformation.

  • Develops and oversees AI-related academic initiatives including curricular enhancements and faculty development programs.

  • Coordinates cross-divisional efforts to identify and implement AI-driven improvements in administrative operations student services and academic support.

  • Supports faculty in integrating AI into teaching research and scholarship.

  • Develops external partnerships to expand TWUs AI-related capabilities and visibility.

  • Advises on ethical legal and policy implications of AI applications in higher education.

  • Represents TWU in national and state-level AI conversations and consortia.

  • Leads efforts to assess the institutional impact of AI implementation and adapts strategies accordingly.

  • Serves as a visible champion of responsible equitable and mission-aligned AI use.

EDUCATION

Earned doctoral degree.

EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated leadership in AI applications within higher education or related industries.
  • Experience building cross-functional collaborations and driving institutional innovation.
  • Administrative leadership experience preferred.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

  • Ability to lead institution-wide strategic initiatives from concept to implementation.

  • Strong analytical and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

  • Skill in managing complex multidisciplinary teams and initiatives.

  • Capacity to navigate the ethical legal and operational dimensions of AI adoption.

  • Proficiency with relevant software and analytical tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
