GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Performs routine and high complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens. Assists lab management with the daily operations of the department.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy precision sensitivity and linearity for test methods. (40%)
• Operates calibrates checks and maintains instrumentation. Troubleshoots problems with quality controls and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information. (25%)
• Communicates with manager supervisor or co-workers concerning the needs of the laboratory including supplies for efficient laboratory operations. (15%)
• Serves as a consultant to laboratory personnel and other health care providers as needed. Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory. (10%)
• May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures and within the expected time frames. (5%)
• May mentor MT/MLT phlebotomy and lab processor students and new employees in laboratory testing following AHN policies and procedures. (5%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• Associates degree in an ASCP eligible program or equivalent.
• Meets ongoing education requirements for certification.
• MLT(ASCP) or equivalent
• 3 to 5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
