Job Summary

POSITION TITLE: Director of Career Education

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO:Director of Secondary Education

CONTRACT DAYS: 240Days and benefits will be specified in the employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on the actual start date.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Meet Arkansas Teaching/Administrative Licensure requirements
  • Effective leadership skills and experiences
  • Proven background in career and technical education instruction assessment and professional development
  • Masters Degree in administration career and technical education or other relevant area preferred
  • 3 years experience as a classroom teacher
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a leadership role
  • CTE experience preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plan develop and implement a comprehensive innovative program for students in career and technical education.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of high quality curriculum and career plans to meet state requirements and to track student progress on state standards career credentials career certifications and college credit.
  • Collaborate with leaders within education and industry partnership(s) in developing and implementing high quality innovative educational programs.
  • Demonstrate instructional leadership through the development of program activities related to outcomes collaborate with faculty to encourage and expect innovative instructional programs.
  • Oversee the daily operation and management of the PEAK Center ensuring efficient scheduling facility readiness and high-quality service delivery.
  • Create a data rich environment that focuses on student needs.
  • Maintain effective collaboration with the Director of Secondary Education other principals and CTE staff in order to ensure effective CTE pathways and offerings.
  • Oversee the development of CTE student organizations and encourage student participation.
  • Design activities to promote pathways as extended learning opportunities.
  • Oversee student certifications dual credit and graduation requirements.
  • Identify analyze and apply research findings to promote pathways courses certifications which support community needs.
  • Estimate enrollment and participate in the development of class schedules facility schedules and faculty schedules with input from district representatives business industry principals and partners.
  • Develop and monitor budgets implement programs within budget and maintain fiscal control.
  • Submit timely accurate reports and paperwork such as discipline reports suspension reports expulsion reports discrimination complaints injury reports parent communications career plans certificates earned credential earned and other paperwork as assigned.
  • Develops procedures designed to enhance the safety of students and staff and to promote the security of property and equipment.
  • Ability to implement emergency evacuations and lock-downs effectively.
  • Ensure facilities are secure accessible and promote the districts vision.
  • Develops communicates and administers policies regarding discipline conduct and attendance and enforces policies and guidelines to maintain proper discipline and conduct.
  • Provides direction consultation and supervision to program employees; consults with centrally based staff and school-based staff on individual cases and on interpretation of federal state and local policies and procedures.
  • Make recommendations relative to personnel placement and retention.
  • Mentors staff and establishes and maintains an effective learning climate.
  • Works with and assists faculty in the development of effective classroom discipline and organization.
  • Supervises and evaluates departmental staff.
  • Effectively communicate the schools mission and goals to parents community members higher education and work-force partners.
  • Participate in Advisory Boards and ensure a program of study advisory committee meetings are scheduled well planned and effectively facilitated.
  • Serve as a liaison between the district and higher education and workforce partners to align programs and resources expand postsecondary pathways and improve student outcomes.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Remain current on instructional practices in education
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance and demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to endure prolonged standing walking sitting kneeling occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders bending squatting.
