Job Summary

Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree upper/graduate level units earned and/or related professional occupational experience per theLos Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract(the initial maximum placement is Class V Step 8). Typical Duties

The instructional assignment may include but is not limited to teaching the following courses:

  • ETHNS 300 - Introduction to Ethnic Studies
  • ETHNS 320 - Introduction to African American Studies
  • ETHNS 321 - African American Policy and Law

The Ethnic Studies Department at Folsom Lake College is committed to equity diversity inclusion anti-racism social and environmental justice and sustainability. Our work is grounded in the four autonomous core disciplines African American/Black Studies Asian American Studies Chicanx/Latinx Studies and American Indian/Native American Studies. We center the voices histories perspectives and lived experiences of these disproportionately impacted communities and affirm our commitment to justice equity and the pursuit of decolonized community-rooted knowledge. We seek a dynamic equity-minded motivated and collegial full-time African American/Black Studies instructor. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of courses including Introduction to Ethnic Studies and specialized courses in African American/Black Studies. Candidates should demonstrate culturally responsive teaching practices rooted in Ethnic Studies and African American/Black Studies pedagogy commit to supporting disproportionately impacted student populations focus on analyzing systems of power privilege and oppression develop student agency and civic engagement; and create learning environments where students addition to teaching the successful candidate will contribute to the continued growth and development of curriculum in their core discipline area(s) and will collaborate closely with colleagues and campus partners to advance the departments mission. Teaching assignments may include on-campus courses instruction at Folsom Lake College centers and online modalities. Applicants should be prepared to engage in ongoing professional development related to diversity equity inclusion and anti-racism as part of their faculty responsibilities.

Faculty may have an opportunity to teach Dual Enrollment courses while working in collaboration with partner highschools and with support from the Dual Enrollment Team to provide accessible high-quality education to high schoolstudents earning college credit.

Assist in developing the Umoja Program work with cohorts of students in the Umoja program who take ETHNS 320 and participate in campus-wide community events and programming.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Masters in African-American/Black/Africana Studies or Latino Studies La Raza Studies Chicana/o Studies or Asian-American Studies or Native American/ American Indian Studies
    OR
    Masters in Ethnic Studies
    ORthe equivalent*
  2. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 20 2026.
  3. Have an equity-minded focus responsiveness and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
