An ESP supports certified teachers by providing instructional behavioral and personal care to work in classrooms to implement lesson plans manage behavior assist with clerical tasks and supervise students in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Instructional Support:Working with individuals or small groups to reinforce lessons read and develop skills.
- Behavior Management:Assisting with classroom management implementing behavior plans and ensuring a safe orderly and productive learning environment.
- Special Education Support:Implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans providing one-on-one assistance and supporting students with physical or learning challenges.
- Clerical Tasks:Grading assignments tracking student attendance and preparing educational materials.
- Supervision:Monitoring students during lunch recess bus arrival/dismissal and in hallways.
- Communication:Reporting student progress to teachers and sometimes assisting in communication with parents.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Education:High school diploma or equivalent is typically required; some positions require an associates degree or passing a paraprofessional competency exam.
- Experience:Experience working with children especially those with special needs is often preferred.
- Skills:Patience adaptability strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
