POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Special Events Manager the Fundraising Sales and Events Intern is a seasonal part-time non-exempt position that plays an integral role in our largest annual fundraiser Summer Bowl for Kids Sake. This position will primarily be tasked with aiding our special events team from May-July in recruiting and mentoring event participants through email and phone this role you will also provide customer service to each event participant helping to support their fundraising efforts. This position will also play an important role at the event during the month of July taking part in pre-event on-site and post-event assistance providing excellent customer service as well as being responsible for all data entry management for over 400 teams and 2000 participants. All Fundraising Sales and Event Interns will gain hands-on experience and receive coaching throughout their internship.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with our Fundraising and Special Events team to help achieve our Bowl for Kids Sake fundraising goal of $840000
  • Assist with all customer service tasks related to Bowl for Kids Sake including sales and recruitment strategies to increase event participation and participant mentoring to increase fundraising success
  • Lead event set up and breakdown participant check-in record keeping and other tasks as assigned at every event session during the month of July. (Dates are likely to be July 8th 10th 14th 17th and 21st 24th but are subject to change)
  • Office work includes but is not limited to: placing and answering phone calls calling past participants to recruit them to form teams drafting and sending emails assisting with mailings computer data entry and assistance with event gifts and records
  • Assist and attend additional events throughout the summer including our Legacy Golf Tournaments and third-party events. (Legacy Tournament dates are May 17th and 18th and June 7th and 8th)
  • Assist with other duties as assigned
  • MUST be available to work during EVERY Bowl for Kids Sake party session that will be held July 8th July 24th Park Lanes in Shawnee KS (unless approved by manager). Sessions take place in the evening beginning at 4pm.

  • Thursday July 9: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-8pm
  • Friday July 10: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-8pm
  • Monday July 13: Mentoring Session in office 2-5pm
  • Tuesday July 14: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-8pm
  • Wednesday July 15: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-8pm
  • Thursday July 16: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-10pm
  • Friday July 17: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-10pm
  • Monday July 20: Mentoring Session in office 2-5pm
  • Tuesday July 21: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-8pm
  • Wednesday July 22: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-8pm
  • Thursday July 23: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-10pm
  • Friday July 24: Arrive at Park Lanes at 4pm. Event time 6-10pm
  • Monday July 27: Mentoring Session in office 2-5pm

ABOUT YOU

Our ideal candidate will be a team player who demonstrates a willingness to take on new tasks with a general attitude that no task is too small or impossible and can represent the agency in a professional enthusiastic and ethical manner. The position requires the ability to work autonomously at times while also being able to work well in a team. The ideal candidate would be reliable takes initiative and is flexible with a willingness to work as needed to accomplish job requirements. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills and be able to speak effectively before groups with high level donors and interact constructively and well with others.

Must be highly organized with the ability to multitask implement systems and follow-up processes able to effectively work under pressure use independent judgment and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.

EDUCATION SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A positive attitude with a willingness to learn and work hard is required
  • Previous experience in sales customer service and/or fundraising is required
  • Access to transportation to travel to and from different locations is required
  • Strong verbal written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking and presenting in front of groups of all sizes
  • Strong organizational and creative thinking skills with attention to detail
  • Comfortable assisting in a sales/fundraising role and building relationships with supporters board members and staff
  • Basic office and computer skills are required including: Outlook Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Works effectively in a team-based environment motivated by achieving a common goal
  • Passion for the non-profit industry and fundraising is a plus
  • Salesforce or other CRM experience is a plus
  • Willing to work days some nights and weekends
  • Ability to work during every Bowl for Kids Sake party session (unless otherwise approved by manager)
  • Ability to work both Legacy Golf Tournaments and set up (unless otherwise approved by manager)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

BBBSKC is the fastest growing Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in the nation nearly doubling the size of our staff and number of children served within the past 10 years. The Fundraising Sales and Events Intern will work primarily be in office 2PM 5PM from May July hours will switch to accommodate Bowl for Kids Sake event sessions at Park Lanes. The intern will attend every Summer Bowl for Kids Sake session in the month of July to aid in managing the event providing customer service to participants and executing all data entry.

PAY RATE & HOURS

$16/hour working 12-15 hours/week. Hours may increase due to the demands of the event.
