The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is seeking an innovative energetic and self-motivated professional to join our team as a Corrections Analyst (Project/Program Manager III). The Corrections Analyst will work collaboratively as part of a team that provides analytical support project coordination and subject-matter expertise to senior leadership and multidisciplinary teams across the department. This position will play a key role in coordinating managing and completing a variety of evolving departmental initiatives.

Primary responsibilities include providing technical and subject-matter expertise for systems that support critical operational processes such as timekeeping and payroll as well as supporting department-wide reporting and staffing analysis. The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience using quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate operational and administrative changes a strong understanding of project management principles and the ability to effectively facilitate and communicate with diverse stakeholders.

Job Duties

The job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not an exhaustive list of all functions and tasks required of this position.

Spearhead multifaceted projects within the department taking charge of scoping planning coordination management execution and evaluation. Some projects will encompass a broad spectrum from formulating policy recommendations and crafting issue papers to carrying out grants and scoping and deploying new technology solutions.
Lead or contribute to cross-functional working groups that address administrative and operational challenges ensuring consistent collaboration and efficient problem-solving.
Communicate with operational and information technology stakeholders to identify address and resolve system problems or inefficiencies. Develop and document related requirements and testing plans and ensure operational compliance with changes.
Apply project management skills and experience to independently deliver results for short- and long-term initiatives of varying size and complexity.
Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of existing departmental processes related to recruitment and retention appropriate staffing models efficient and effective organizational functioning and emerging correctional issues and draft written and oral presentations to address findings.
Collect analyze interpret and present data to assess and measure progress toward departmental goals. Develop and monitor performance measures for various projects and initiatives.
Establish effective working relationships with department leadership and subject matter experts within the department and lead teams that may have differing perspectives toward goals and outcomes.
Communicate effectively with internal and external audiences as an authoritative representative of department leadership on a variety of issues related to Department or County priorities for the purpose of shaping policy and practice advocating controversial positions and achieving important Department objectives.
Apply an equity and social justice mindset to all aspects of the work in partnership with other team members division and department staff and internal and external stakeholders.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience managing complex projects and initiatives and/or providing complex data and business analysis for a local or state government agency.
  • A bachelors degree in criminal justice public administration business or other social science field from an accredited college or university; OR
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to successfully perform the work.

  • The ability to provide leadership to work groups and project teams distill complex information to inform decision-making work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and build consensus among people with varying opinions.
  • Flexibility and a diverse skillset with the ability to manage a variety of projects and initiatives and achieve results.
  • Skillfully built effective relationships including the ability to influence and move others to act.
  • Strong strategic analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in research data collection and analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to create and present high-level informative briefings and proposals.
  • The ability to apply appropriate project management research and/or analysis methodologies in support of fast-paced results-oriented initiatives with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced dynamic environment; manage multiple tasks simultaneously; and organize prioritize and complete work quickly with minimal oversight to meet deadlines.

Desirable Qualifications Include:

  • A passion for people public service and positive change.
  • A masters degree in criminal justice public administration business or other social science field from an accredited college or university.
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing innovative strategies and best practices and achieving goals.
  • Public sector experience in project management and/or data analysis in an organization of similar size or type with preference given to experience involving criminal justice agencies.
  • Adept at leveraging technology and Office 365 tools to collaborate and drive progress in the modern workplace.
  • Experience within the criminal justice system coupled with extensive tenure in County or State government. This type of experience lends a unique perspective and understanding particularly in navigating the intricate dynamics of the governmental landscape.

WORK SCHEDULE:WORK SCHEDULE: This position will work a 40-hour work week and is overtime eligible (provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act). Standard work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. This position is exempt under the provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) meaning that it is not eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time accrual and the incumbent will be required to work the hours necessary to meet position responsibilities.

Executive leave determinations are processed in accordance with the criteria set forth in Executive Leave Policy 2021-0010 which states: Department directors will determine those FLSA-exempt employees whose positions require them to work substantially in excess of the standard work schedule for the department on an ongoing regular basis. Such employees are eligible to receive up to ten (10) days of executive leave annually.

WORK LOCATION:The work associated with this position will be performed through a hybrid work model that will require both onsite and remote work. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change.

The primary onsite work location for this position is the King County Courthouse at 516 3rd Avenue E 245 Seattle WA 98104. However candidates must be willing and able to report to work at different secured detention facilities in Seattle or Kent.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and when working remotely must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
