Position Overview
Direct and manage SISDs special education and Section 504 programs ensuring all services are provided to meet the individual needs of eligible students and that all state federal and local requirements are met. Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service and compliance with state and federal guidelines. Oversee the SPED staff and help to recruit staff for particular roles as needed.
Position/Assignment Information:Special Education Director
Grades:PreK-12th
Desired Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Masters degree preferably in Special Education
- Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate preferred but not required
- Certified TTESS appraiser preferred but not required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Recruit select supervise train and evaluate SPED staff (teachers aides diags etc)
- Direct and manage all SPED and 504 programs to meet student needs
- Ability to manage a budget and implement appropriate technolgy as far as advanvcements in assistive technology etc
- Plan and facilitate ongoing professional development and training for both SPED and general education staff
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Ability to interpret data
- Strong organizational communication public relations and interpersonal skills
- Expertise in admission review and dismissal (ARD) processes
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of successful teaching experience in special education
- 2-4 years of experience in a campus or district-level leadership/administrative role is preferred
