Abilene USD 435 is seeking an individual who will coordinate the summer drivers education program.

The successful candidate will manage the administration scheduling and curriculum of driving programs ensuring compliance with state regulations. The coordinator will handle student registrations in collaboration with the AHS secretary maintain safety standards train and oversee instructors and manage all records. The role typically involves direct teaching and scheduled in-car training sessions. The coordinator provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the written portion of the license examination and aids students who need a drivers license with completion of state required paperwork for driving permit.

The Drivers Education Coordinator will work closely with the districts board clerk AHS principal AHS secretary and drivers education staff to provide quality programming for AHS students.

The position is a classified non-exempt summer part-time position. Regular attendance at work is necessary to oversee the drivers education program.

Summer Work Hours:

The successful candidate will work a minimum of 8 hours per day and maximum of 10 hours per day

during the pre-determined scheduled dates for drivers education instruction and in-car training sessions. No leave benefits are provided for the drivers education coordinator part-time position.

Qualifications:

  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record on file at the district office
  • Bachelors degree
  • Current Kansas Professional License with Drivers Education endorsement
  • Previous experience as a driving instructor and in-car trainer
  • Computer experience required with knowledge of Microsoft programs.
  • Strong customer service skills

  • Strong instructional skills
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after employment offer is made).

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to efficiently operate the school district transportation department.
  • Ability to ensure all activities conform to District guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to operate all vehicles and software appropriately as necessary.
  • Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information in order to remain in compliance with legal requirements and to maintain a professional work environment.
  • Provides classroom drivers education instruction that meets state-mandated requirements.
  • Assists students with prior offenses in re-establishing their eligibility and securing a license prior to completion in accordance with State mandates and laws.
  • Assists students in completing the paperwork necessary to apply for and obtain a state drivers permit license.
  • Schedule students ready for behind-the wheel driving.
  • Works with the AHS secretary and Board Clerk to ensure drivers education fees are collected.
  • Ensures that all student test results and progress are documented and recorded using PowerSchool.
  • Maintains up-to-date skills in field of specialty through available sources such as publications formal study programs and in-service training.
  • Models mentors and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
  • Reports violations of unethical behavior.
  • Acts as a responsible custodian for assigned instructional space and vehicles.
  • Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns as they may occur in their classroom areas and vehicles.
  • Ensures drivers/staff are educated and updated on all transportation/driver-relevant information.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • Requires extended sitting standing stooping bending turning and reaching during the use of equipment includes repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 to 50 pounds.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors during summer hours.
  • Must occasionally work in a noisy and crowded environment with numerous interruptions.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time efficiently and courteously.

Terms of Employment: At Will.

Evaluation:

Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.
