We areseekingan experienced and highly motivated Vice President Security and Risk Management to join thePhoenix Suns (NBA) Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) Valley Suns (G League) and Mortgage Matchup Center.â As a Vice President Security and Risk Management you will ensure that the highest level of service and safety is provided by overseeing security operations and risk management of all properties of the Team Member Headquarters (HQ)Mortgage Matchup Center Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury practice facilities.âThis role collaborates closely with a variety of internal and external partners and supports the overall business objectives.â This role will oversee the Security leader at each site for both Full Time and Part Time Team Members.
The VP Security and Risk Managementwill report directly to theHead of Building Operationsandis responsible forproviding the leadershipdirectionand supervision of the securitydepartmentboth event and non-event.â This position will oversee the safety and security of the employees guestsvendorsand the physical property of theMortgage Matchup Centerand associated properties controlled by the organization.â The position is also responsible for ensuring all Safety compliance through trainingpoliciesand procedures.
This Position plays a key role inestablishingand maintaining relationships with localstateand federal law enforcement agencies and life safety units. They direct all internal and external investigations and serve asthe primarycontact with law enforcement agencies. The role will work with Team Security for both the Phoenix Mercury and Phoenix Suns Security Team to ensure collaboration on systems and processes.
What You Will Do:
- Lead and oversee all security safety and risk management operations across the arena headquarters and training facilities.
- Develop andmaintainsafety standards emergency plans and security procedures to minimize risk and ensure compliance.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external agencies and partners (law enforcement fire federal agencies insurance and risk management vendors).
- Partner with NBA and WNBA security teams to ensure player and facility security.
- Ensuretimelyregulatory reporting and compliance in coordination with Legal and People & Culture.
- Direct security leadership teams including staffing training performance management and professional development.
- Manage department scheduling labor planning and operational reporting to meet staffing needs and control costs.
- Oversee investigations incidentresponse surveillance activities and coordination with authorities whenrequired.
- Lead facility safety training programs and regular inspections.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets operating expenses and capital expenditure proposals.
- Maintain Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Operations Plans across all facilities.
- Act as Executive on Duty as assigned and support department operations during high-demand situations.
What We Need from Our VP Security and Risk Management:
- Extensive knowledge of public safety regulations risk management life safety and security operations for large public venues.
- Proven experience in crisis management investigations security technology staffing scheduling and budgeting.
- Strong operational andfinancial managementskills across multiple projects and facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large teams build high-performance cultures and deliver exceptional guest safety and experience.
- Excellent communication problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently in high-pressure environments.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft WordExcelandPowerpoint.
Experience/ Education Requirements:
- Major market arena/stadium and NBA security leadership experience preferred.
- Bachelors degree in police science or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10 years of experience in large-scale venue operations and security with 10 yearsinsupervisory roles.
- Experience leading organizations of 100 employees strongly preferred.
- OSHA 10required; OSHA 30 preferred (or obtained within six months).
