Job Duties

The Senior Associate Director for the Residential Experience advances the mission of Housing and Residence Life by providing strategic leadership for a cohesive intentional and high-impact residential experience from move-in through move-out. This role ensures that the residential environment is safe educationally purposeful student-centered and aligned with the departments residential curriculum retention goals and institutional priorities.

The Senior Associate Director for the Residential Experience provides comprehensive oversight of the student residential journey ensuring meaningful engagement learning and belonging throughout the academic year. This position leads large-scale programming staff training and development budgeting assessment and storytelling efforts while cultivating intentional learning experiences that increase student touchpoints and demonstrate the impact of the residential experience. Additionally the role provides strategic oversight and guidance to Housing Operations by supporting best practices audits and operational processes across the full housing lifecycle

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge
Comprehensive understanding of residential education models residential curriculum frameworks and student development theory. Knowledge of large-scale program planning budgeting and resource allocation. Familiarity with assessment practices learning outcomes and data-informed decision-making. Understanding housing operations processes including assignments occupancy management audits and compliance. Awareness of best practices in staff supervision professional development and organizational leadership. Knowledge of risk management campus safety and student support systems within residential environments

Skills
Ability to design implement and assess a comprehensive residential experience from move-in to move-out. Strong leadership skills in planning and executing large-scale programs trainings and departmental initiatives. Budget management and fiscal oversight skills including forecasting and responsible stewardship of resources. Capacity to lead mentor and professionally develop mid-level and entry-level staff. Effective communication skills including the ability to translate data into compelling narratives that demonstrate impact. Strategic planning and project management skills across multiple functional areas. Collaborative leadership skills to partner with campus stakeholders and operational teams

Abilities
Ability to align programming learning experiences and staff work with a residential curriculum and institutional goals. Ability to increase intentional student touchpoints and foster inclusive engaging residential communities. Ability to analyze data assess outcomes and use findings to improve the residential experience. Ability to provide strategic guidance and oversight to housing operations including advising on best practices audits and operational workflows. Ability to manage complexity prioritize competing initiatives and lead during high-impact periods such as move-in and move-out. Ability to inspire teams model excellence and drive a culture of accountability learning and continuous improvement

Additional Considerations

Education
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution is required.
Masters degree in Higher Education Student Affairs College Student Personnel Educational Leadership or a related field is required.
Consideration may be given to candidates currently enrolled in a masters degree program who possess significant and progressive professional experience as outlined below.

Experience
A minimum of 7 or more years of progressively responsible experience in Housing and Residence Life including both entry-level and leadership roles.
Demonstrated experience overseeing or contributing to the residential experience including student engagement residential programming and staff training.
Proven track record of planning and executing large-scale programs and trainings including curriculum-based or learning-centered initiatives.
Experience supervising training and professionally developing professional and/or graduate staff.
Experience working in a public higher education institution with prior experience at a public HBCU strongly preferred.

Licensure/Certification
No licensure or certification required for entry into the position.
