The Service Information Team has one special duty assignment available to assist with public information for the Service Change. The period of the assignment will vary depending on the available workload and will range between 90 days to one year with the possibility of extension.

We encourage and welcome previously successful qualified and trained individuals who have worked with the Service Information team in the last 4 years to apply and submit a letter of interest.


This recruitment will be used to fill 1 Special Duty Assignment addition this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future Career Service Special Duty Assignment TLT (Term Limited Temporary) or STT (Short Term Temporary) vacancies that may occur in this classification within this workgroup. The eligibility pool will be retained for 12 months from the date of posting andmay be used at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Job Duties

Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County this role you will apply equity and social justice principles to all aspects of the work. You will be:

  • Handling external-facing communications materials: Assist with creation and deployment of communication documents like schedules brochures etc.
  • Proofreading: Proofreading communications and scheduling materials.
  • Rider Alerts: Research draft produce post and remove bus stop Rider Alerts related to the service change.
  • Signage: Assist with the preparation and posting of transit service information at transit centers and bus stops.
  • Documenting Service Change Related Processes: Observe and document Service Information processes in detail.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: There are many elements to executing the Service Change that require a team effort and acting in different roles/duties.

This work will require:

  • Working collaboratively with staff in the King Street Center office and in the field.
  • Driving Metro vehicles in heavy traffic and making frequent stops to post service information at bus zones and transit facilities.
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Using hand tools and basic mechanical knowledge.


Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recent knowledge of Metros transit service area transit routes schedules and other organization knowledge.
  • One year or more of experience understanding and working with topics related to the transit customer experience transit customer needs customer use of transit products and services and resolving customer complaints.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook Excel and Word.
  • Valid Washington State Drivers license is required.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to establish andmaintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals and collaborate well with others.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to ensure the accuracy of work products.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments manage daily work assigned and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in English grammar spelling and proofreading.
  • Clear written communicator especially over email.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight follow written and verbal instructions and figure out completing work with high-quality outcomes.
  • Transporting and organizing communication materials.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Graphic Design or Information Production experience.
  • Experience with Adobe products such as InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Previous experience with proofing/proofreading.
  • Previous communication distribution experience.
  • Experience with using or creating maps.
  • Experience with creating instructions for others to follow.
  • Multi-lingual individual.

Work Schedule
This position will work from the Distribution Warehouse at 1523 6th Ave S Seattle WA 98134 and various sites including King Street Center (201 S Jackson St Seattle WA 98104) and in the field when needed. Work must be performed on-site.

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Work Schedule
The work week is normally 40 hours Monday through Friday. Alternative work schedules may be possible. This position is nonexempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore is eligible for overtime pay.
