Job Summary

NAYA Family Center is seeking a passionate and community-focused Green Workforce Academy Coordinator to join our team as part of the Green Workforce Collaborative (GWC). This role supports the Green Workforce Academy Program Manager in leading a culturally responsive workforce readiness program for Black and Native American adults connecting participants to meaningful careers in the green sector. Youll focus on outreach within Portlands Native and Black communities manage day-to-day program operations and build pathways to economic opportunity. This dynamic role requires flexibility and collaboration reporting to supervisors at both NAYA and Ecotrust.

This is a full-time position between the working hours of 8:30am 5:30pm Monday through Friday which may include evenings and occasional weekends as needed.


The pay rate for this position ranges from $29-32 an hour.

Who You Are

  • You have at least 2 years of experience in program coordination and 2 years teaching adult learners in non-traditional settings.
  • Ideally you have experience in environmental education and/or workforce development.
  • You have experience working with diverse populations particularly Native American and Black communities.
  • You have a deep understanding of Black and Native American histories including structural racism anti-Blackness the diversity of local Indigenous communities and the Urban Native experience.
  • You have experience mentoring adults through career counseling peer advising or similar roles.
  • Youre skilled at building relationships across cultures and with multiple stakeholders.
  • Youre adaptable flexible and able to handle last-minute schedule changes with grace.
  • You can work independently while knowing when to seek guidance from your team.
  • Youre skilled at de-escalating tense conversations using a trauma-informed approach.
  • You have strong intercultural interpersonal and organizational communication skills and you know how to meet people where they are.
  • Youre organized punctual and dependable.

What Youll Do

  • Lead recruitment efforts through community engagement relationship building outreach and social media.
  • Manage program logistics including scheduling purchasing materials and coordinating wraparound services with other NAYA programs.
  • Create communications materials and maintain an active social media presence for GWA.
  • Teach GWA classes and assist with curriculum updates and development.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with green sector employers and identify job opportunities for participants.
  • Support current and past graduates through mentorship career counseling and professional development opportunities.
  • Drive the GWA passenger van as needed for program activities and field work.
  • Identify opportunities to expand GWA offerings and foster collaboration among Green Workforce Collaborative partners.
  • Prepare clear and accurate reports on program activities and outcomes.
  • Foster a safe and secure environment for community members and staff maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Work in both office/classroom settings (60%) and outdoors doing field work in all weather conditions and uneven terrain (40%) with frequent travel within the Portland Metro area.
