Patient Care Assistant Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) performs basic patient care activities and unit support tasks to promote safe efficient care and patient throughput. Assists with activities of daily living and routine monitoring; maintains a clean well-stocked environment; supports nursing/physician staff and tech desk operations. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department. FLSA: Non-Exempt.

Essential Functions

• Performs basic patient care as delegated and supervised by an RN including monitoring vital signs possible blood glucose measurements and accurate intake/output recording.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing grooming eating toileting ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical mental or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms and common areas clean safe and appropriately stocked.
• Manages the tech desk; supports nursing/physician staff and department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Participates in performance improvement and required education; performs other duties as assigned.

Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure: Occupational exposure may be present for all employees in this role.

Physical Requirements (typical): Frequent standing walking reaching keyboard entry repetitive hand/arm and foot/leg movements kneeling and lifting/moving patients; occasional sitting and squatting; rare running or climbing. Near/far vision and depth perception frequent/constant; color distinction frequent.

Environmental Exposures: Occasional exposure to biohazardous waste communicable diseases/pathogens dust gases/vapors/fumes hazardous chemicals/medications; latex exposure frequent.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Education: High School diploma preferred.

License: SRNA or EMT preferred.

Certifications: BCLS required; Handle with Care preferred.

Skills: Critical thinking decisive judgment ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment; rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems; effective English communication (read/write/speak); ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
