Scope:
The System Architect Leader is responsible for providing strategic technical leadership and architectural vision for Embedded Software Hardware and Configuration Software for the APS Platform Merging Units and NGGC platform while leading a team of architects who contribute to the design and execution of cohesive scalable solutions that enable high quality implementation and sustainable maintainability.
This role oversees a team of Architects specialized in:
Configuration Software Architecture
Real Time Embedded Architecture
Non Real Time Software Architecture
Communication Protocols
Virtualization Architecture
The leader will ensure the consistency scalability and robustness of system designs across the full product portfolio. This position requires strong communication decision making and influencing capabilities to guide cross functional teams drive architectural alignment and ensure compliance with key industry standards (e.g. IEC61850 IEC62443 IEC 61131 IEC 61869 Power Systems fundamentals etc).
This position reports to the Embedded SW Platform Leader.
Job Description
Major Responsibilities
People & Technical Leadership
- Lead mentor and grow a team of Architects (Configuration RealTime NonRealTime IEC 61850).
- Ensure alignment of architectural decisions across all product lines and development teams.
- Provide coaching guidance and performance feedback fostering a highfunctioning architecture team.
- Drive clarity prioritization and accountability in architectural workstreams.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence innovation and rigorous engineering discipline.
Architectural Vision & Strategy
- Define and maintain the architectural roadmap for Embedded Software platforms supporting Protection Relays Merging Units Virtualization Platform
- Lead systemlevel technical evaluations tradeoff analyses and highlevel design decisions.
- Ensure architectural consistency across platforms products and engineering teams.
- Drive standardization of design patterns interfaces communication protocols and modeling practices.
- Represent the architecture function in global reviews and key decisionmaking committees.
CrossFunctional Collaboration & Influence
- Work closely with R&D leaders Systems Engineering Product Management and Hardware Architecture teams.
- Influence decisionmaking across matrixed organizations using strong technical authority and communication skills.
- Foster alignment between system architecture product strategy and customer requirements.
- Lead technical design reviews workshops and whiteboard sessions in collaboration with Design Office
Technical Expertise & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Power Systems engineering requirements and communication standards including:
- IEC 61850 (including SCL modeling GOOSE MMS SV PTP time sync)
- IEC 62351 (security for power systems)
- IEC 61131
- IEC 61869
- Protection and control application constraints (fault detection fast realtime response redundancy etc.)
- Oversee modeling interfaces and integration with HW I/O DSP/FPGA and communication stacks.
- Guide architectural decisions ensuring safety determinism performance and maintainability.
- Support the adoption of modern software practices (Agile DevOps CI/CD modelbased design)
Execution & Delivery
- Ensure that architectural choices support product quality ontime release and cost targets.
- Anticipate risks related to dependencies technology choices and system complexity.
- Lead resolution of critical technical issues across teams.
- Review and approve key engineering documentation and architecture artifacts.
Performance Measurement
- Quality robustness and scalability of system and software architecture across products.
- Team engagement alignment mentoring and architectural capability development.
- Consistency and clarity of architectural decisions and documentation.
- Timely support to product development teams and adherence to R&D schedules.
- Reduction in technical debt improved platform reuse and increased design efficiency.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Educational background: bachelors degree in electrical engineering Computer Engineering Computer Science or a related field is usually required
- Experience: Significant experience in embedded systems development 10years this experience should include hands-on work with embedded software and hardware development on multicore systems focusing on performance and determinism
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as C and C as well with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS task management Context Switching Interrupt handling etc.) and microcontroller architectures Linux Microservices Container technologies (Docker Kubernetes) Virtualization (Hypervisor types VM management network configuration). Strong Experience with communication protocols such as DNP3 Modbus IEC 60870 IEC 61850 (MMS GOOSE SMV)
- Leadership and Management: Strong leadership skills to guide and mentor a team of engineers. This includes project management setting technical direction and ensuring timely delivery of projects
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and optimize embedded systems
- Communication Skills: Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams including hardware software product management program management Design Office. Excellent interpersonal communication presentation and influential skills
- Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of protection and control segment for T&D. Understanding of industry standards certifications and security best practices for embedded devices. Strong knowledge on the IEC standards IEC --4-2.
- Continuous Learning: Staying updated with the latest advancements in embedded technologies and connectivity protocols
- Power System Product Design: experience on developing Power System Products will be appreciated
- AI/ML basic skillsets (mathematics programming (especially Python) data handling machine learning algorithms deep learning concepts)
