Job Summary

This position is 8 hours per day 190 days per year.

POSITION: Speech Language Pathology Assistant

LOCATION: All Locations

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

JOB SUMMARY: This position was established for the purpose of working under the direction of a certificated speech pathologist to identify students with communication disabilities; work with individual and/or small groups of students in a classroom; assist with the planning and implementation of appropriate treatments to minimize adverse impact on student success; follow and monitor treatment plans.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Administers tests and re-evaluates students communication skills (e.g. articulation fluency voice expressive and receptive language etc.) for the purpose of assisting the Speech and Language Pathologist in identifying communication disorders and developing recommendations for treatment.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Assists the Speech and Language Pathologist with the development and implementation of treatment for the purpose of reaching a students individualized academic and program goals.
  • Attends Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings as necessary for the purpose of observing the connection between interventions and educational goals.
  • Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents speech and language pathologist teachers administration co-workers etc.) for the purpose of communicating information and evaluating student progress for planning and modifying treatment plans/goals.
  • Confidentially maintains student files and/or records (e.g. progress reports activity logs treatment plans required documentation screening results etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.
  • Follows therapeutic program and treatment plans with instructional guidelines established by the supervising Speech and Language Pathologist for the purpose of improving students academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Maintains equipment tools kits work area (e.g. adapting instructional materials cleaning work area maintaining equipment) for the purpose of ensuring the functioning and availability of items.
  • Participates in meetings workshops in-services and seminars (e.g. training team meetings etc.) for the purpose of maintaining skills conveying and/or gathering information as well as complying with District requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials under the guidance of the Speech and Language Pathologist (e.g. activity logs correspondence memos reports required documentation etc.) for the purpose of documenting and recording activities providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Prepares assembles and maintains instructional materials for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts which are aligned with student and program goals.
  • Provides speech and language therapy to students individually or in small groups for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing concepts in order to meet the goals of individual student plans while minimizing the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success.
  • Researches a variety of information for the purpose of finding materials methods exercises and techniques addressing students speech and language needs.
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents teachers staff students etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or referral as appropriate.
  • Supports assigned Speech and Langauge Pathologist and Director of Special Services for the purpose of assisting them in maintaining department goals.
  • Transports supplies and equipment to a variety of sites for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed.
  • Works within a variety of websites and programs for the purpose of maintaining updated records and providing current information pertinent to the Districts Speech and Language services.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Assisting with handling other pertinent activities as directed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain a Washington SLPA Certification
  • Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous educational SLPA experience in a K-12 setting preferred.
