Software Development Manager, Kindle Unlimited

Passionate about books and reading Books have a long history at Amazon; books were our first retail product we reinvented reading with Kindle and today we enable reading across a multitude of surfaces and content types. The Books Content Demand team helps readers find books and authors through relevant content search results and recommendations and innovative shopping experiences. We set audacious goals and are looking for people who can help us transform the way we engage with readers and help them find their next book.

As a Software Development Manager you will lead a collection of skilled friendly people from all over the world and collaborate with business owners to build a clear roadmap of priorities that serve our customers. You own implementing the mechanisms that ensure timely deliveries that are of the highest quality. You are responsible for developing your people and for managing their performance and careers. You will have significant agency to decide the priorities of the team in order to balance operational excellence and new customer deliveries and you will contribute to the mechanisms that help manage stakeholder expectations and garner support for your future investments.

- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company Amazons package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
