Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Engineer/Project Manager to join our Resilience Water team in the DC/MD metro area. This hybrid seller/doer role to lead and direct the development of water wastewater and stormwater projects as a client-facing project manager and Principal in Charge. This role will actively participate as a key member of the Area Leadership Team. This position will engage with our established well-respected team to execute our healthy project backlog and lead our strategy for growth across the DC/MD metro area.

The successful candidate will utilize their project management expertise and technical knowledge of municipal water wastewater and stormwater planning engineering design and construction along with a proven reputation in the DC/MD metro area for excellence in client management and business development to successfully win and execute a growing portfolio of industry-leading projects.

Role accountabilities:

In this role you will leadand directthe development of water/wastewater and stormwater projects as a client-facing project manager. You will utilize your knowledge of water distribution systems wastewater collection systems stormwater management pump/lift stations and water/wastewater treatment facility engineering to successfully deliver projects and meet client expectations.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Manage the planning design and construction administration of projects to ensure compliance with contracts drawings specifications codesstatutes rules and regulations as well asArcadis quality and safety practices.
  • Communicate with clients establishing goals and objectives for project teams and scheduling and coordinating resources to deliver projects on time within budget and to the performance expectations of the client.
  • Provide technical expertise on multi-disciplined projects as a design leader QA/QC reviewer or technical advisor.
  • Supervise and support the work of others while mentoring junior-level engineers and technical staff.
  • Work directly with clients to determine needs and deliver solutions and lead the growth of client relationships with target clients including DC Water and WSSC as well as other regional utilities.
  • Lead/Support teams in the marketing and proposal phases of projects including preparation of winning proposals and successful presentations as well as developing scopes of work and budgets for various water wastewater and stormwater projects.
  • Travel will be required for project site visits client meetings safety audits general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities depending on project staffing needs.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field of study
  • 15 years of water wastewater and/or stormwater project experience
  • 5 years of experience managing municipal water/wastewater and/or stormwater management projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License

Key Skills/Attributes

The role requires strong client management skills including the preparation and development of proposals and the ability to build and maintain effective client relationships. It also requires proven project leadership and management experience demonstrated through successfully leading and managing small to midsize multidisciplined water wastewater or stormwater projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include holding a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington DC Virginia and Maryland. A masters degree in engineering or a related fieldsuch as a Master of Business Administration or Master of Public Administrationis also desired. Candidates should have experience managing client accounts supporting client development efforts and leading project pursuits and pursuit teams collaboratively across a variety of opportunities. Strong team leadership experience is preferred including the ability to manage overall project delivery expectations prioritize tasks and provide mentorship. Active participation in regional or national professional associations industry activities and conferences is also highly valued.

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per salary range for this position is $150000 - $210000/year. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors such as experience education budget internal equity project and location.
