Job Summary

Position Title: Director of Food ServicesDepartment: Food ServicesReports To: Business AdministratorDate: January 2026GENERAL SUMMARY:The Director of Food Services is responsible for the daily operations of the Berlin Public Schools food service program. This leadership role ensures compliance with all USDA and state regulations while maintaining high standards of food quality safety and service. The Director also oversees staff training and development menu planning inventory control and vendor relations to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of nutritional meals to students. The position follows the Directors Benefits & Guidelines. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Program AdministrationComplete and submit annual applications and monthly claims for USDA Meal Programs:National School Lunch Program (breakfast and lunch)Fresh Fruits and Vegetable ProgramChild and Adult Care Program (after-school snack and supper)Seamless Summer OptionEnsure compliance with USDA guidelines for all school nutrition and implement current federal and state OversightSupervise and support Food Service Managers and school kitchen daily operations including food production menu execution and compliance routine inspections to ensure standards of cleanliness food safety and efficiency are the department undergoes at least two annual health Planning & ProcurementDesign USDA-compliant menus for breakfast lunch and after-school vendor orders and verify all items meet federal nutrition food inventory across school sites and coordinate transfers to reduce waste and control Management & SupportOversee hiring task assignment performance monitoring and professional development of food service on-site and remote training including use of the LunchTime POS staff concerns related to equipment menu adjustments allergies and customer Health & NutritionCollaborate with principals kitchen managers school nurses and parents to accommodate students with dietary restrictions or special feeding safe food handling protocols and oversee necessary nutritional regularly with the nursing department about allergens and special DutiesBalance and deposit POS cash and check receipts on a weekly and document staff professional emergency coverage and shift in the Wellness Committee and ensure compliance with wellness policy operational improvements and initiate relevant DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Attend state and regional conferences and a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education REQUIRED:Minimum 3 years of experience in food service or a related school diploma or GED knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs food labels and Manager Certification (or obtain within 3 months of hire).School Nutrition Association (SNA) certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire).Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn district-wide systems (e.g. POS nutrition analysis software USDA platforms).Ability to multitask lead a team and perform detailed administrative work with minimal CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is performed in both office and school kitchen to lift up to 30 pounds and travel between schools as frequent travel between district schools and use of standing walking lifting and occasional participation in kitchen above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to do this job.
