Position Summary
The Media School at Indiana University Bloomington seeks broadcast journalism professionals interested in transitioning to education and mentoring the next generation of multimedia journalists and video storytellers. We invite applications for a full-time non-tenure-track faculty position in Journalism. Our Broadcast program has a strong tradition of hands-on experiential learning and the candidate will be the point-person for our students as they gain experience in our television and social media spaces and platforms. We seek candidates with considerable professional experience in broadcasting who have demonstrated skills in creating compelling video news stories on camera interviewing and presentation producing newscasts and social media content editing in professional media settings. We seek candidates with major market experience in broadcast journalism who understand how the role of the MMJ is changing in an era of broadcast station ownership consolidation and the increasing use of newsroom AI tools. Ideal candidates are mid-career professionals with experience in mentoring young journalists and/or adjunct teaching experience at the university level. The successful candidate would teach three courses per semester (fall and spring) including the course sequence that produces IU NewsNet the Media Schools curriculum-based journalism broadcast. The ideal candidate would also be able to act as the faculty advisor for IUSTV the student-run organization within The Media School that produces news sports and entertainment programming through a student club. The teaching statement should describe why you want to teach and reflect on your philosophy of teaching and learning as well as concrete ways you have put that into practice.
