The Cape Henry Collegiate (CHC) Lower School is a vibrant and caring school community. Coaches and mentors are valued and important members of the Middle School Team at CHC. We seek a Coach/Mentor wishing to support a classroom teacher in providing an exemplary educational experience in support of our school mission statement and core values. This is a STIPEND based role.
A dedicated coach/mentor responsible for guiding students through 20 one-hour sessions to prepare team members for the FIRST LEGO League Challenge (culminating competition).
Sessions will start early in September and go into November. Sessions will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 PM.
The coach will:
Collaborate with the STEAM director on meeting agendas lesson plans and season timeline.
Facilitate teamwork problem-solving and innovation in building and programming LEGO robots.
Teach students FIRST core values like collaboration inclusion and perseverance.
Support the team in researching designing and presenting their innovation project.
Prepare students for the seasons culminating competition(s) ensuring a positive enriching experience.
Note: Coaches are required to attend the culminating Saturday local competition that will take place in November.
Note: If the team qualifies for the regional championship in January the team will continue meeting to prepare for the Sunday competition at James Madison University.
