**SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL NURSE-TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION**The School Nurse-Teacher is a registered nurse with a Bachelors degree along with additional training in education and specific school health care issues. The primary role of the School Nurse-Teacher is to protect and promote the health of elementary schools the Nurse-Teacher may travel between multiple buildings each middle and high schools the Nurse-Teacher is present for the entire school day.**I. Qualifications**1. Eligibility for certification in the State of Rhode Island as a School Nurse-Teacher.2. A valid Rhode Island State nursing license.3. A registered nurse degree from an accredited school of nursing.**II. Immediate Supervisor**The School Nurse-Teacher works under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent and collaborates directly with the school principal and staff members.**III. Major Areas of Responsibility**1. Conduct school health services: a. Identify and address the needs of children with special health issues present in the school; provide first aid and care during emergencies or injuries. b. Assist with counseling students upon their request. c. Provide health education to teachers and parents. d. Assist teachers in evaluating students health needs. e. Distribute and monitor medications. f. Act as a liaison between the school home and community health services. g. Review students physical and immunization records to ensure compliance and maintain a health record for each student. h. Perform all other nurse-teacher tasks as required.2. Advise school administrators on all health-related matters concerning faculty staff and students.3. With the approval of the school physician participate in and cooperate with the Rhode Island Department of Health regarding immunization programs.4. Notify parents of students who have health deficits that require attention.5. Communicate with parents as needed to obtain further medical information.6. Inform teachers about students physical disabilities and provide recommendations when necessary.**IV. Work Year**As needed**V. Salary**To be determined per Nurse-Teacher reports directly to the school principal or their designee.
