Role Overview
- This is a Long-term Substitute Teacher opening to teach AP English beginning March 30 through the end of the school year June 1 or November 2 2026
- Interested candidates may have the option to take the summer off and resume this Substitute Teacher role in the fall between the dates of August 17 through November 2 with the possibility of another extensionthrough December 18 if needed.
- Minnehaha Academy Upper School is located along West River Parkway in Minneapolis right along the Mississippi River in a new and modern school building with upscale amenities and a beautiful campus inside and out.
- Candidates must be able to practice and model Christian values.
Role Logistics
- School day schedule: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday
- Attends professional development days for Upper School Faculty
- Pay to match credential levels (degree and experience level) Pay range: $175-240 per day based on qualifications
- Not benefit eligible
- Off on no-school days
- Summer off dates: June 2 - August 16 2026
- Reports to the Upper School Principal
- Supported by the principal and the English Department Chair and colleagues
- Lesson plans provided
- Ability to apply engaging learning methods to meet students where they are at in their learning (with awareness of creating a smooth transition for students)
Instruction Expectations
- Partner with our dedicated English department and parents to provide a seamless transition ensuring student progress remains steady and communication stays clear.
- Foster a classroom environment where every voice is heard and critical thinking is the norm.
- Act as a mentor for student writing offering thoughtful personalized critiques on essays to help students refine their unique voice and analytical skills.
- Go beyond the syllabus by supporting students emotional and academic well-being maintaining the supportive culture of our private school community.
- Ensure all students with specific learning needs are appropriately supported and challenged
- Develop engaging projects and prompts that challenge students to connect literary themes to the modern world making the material feel relevant and alive.
- Implement effective monitoring and evaluation practices of student progress and academic standards
- Keep the learning organized and accessible by effectively using our campus technology
- Effectively utilize technology to enhance the learning experience.
- Maintain a quality learning environment by implementing effective classroom management and promoting student responsibility for learning.
- Maintain a stimulating physical environment that supports and encourages learning.
- Act as the first point of referral for classroom discipline.
Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching Upper School English
- State Licensure for 5-12 or 7-12 Language Arts preferable
- Ability to integrate the Christian faith to learning and life
