Summary: Assumes responsibility for day-to-day activity and training of employees as directed in order to provide for the needs of the Medical Center environment and for the completion of departmental work in a timely and efficient manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibility I
- Schedules employees in order to provide appropriate coverage to maintain all areas of the Medical Center environment according to department Medical Center and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains daily shift schedules by prioritizing work to provide for adequate coverage of all areas of the Medical Center.
- Maintains equitable work coverage for all Environmental Services workers on a daily basis.
- Schedules all holidays personal days an equitable manner providing employees with written approval/disapproval of all time off requests.
- Maintains all project work and schedules to comply with cycle cleaning procedures.
- Adjusts personal schedule to accommodate department and Medical Center needs.
Responsibility II
- Assists with responsibility for human resources management within the Environmental Services Department to achieve consistency and positive employee relations.
- Maintains current employee attendance records according to attendance control procedures.
- Utilizes the Orientation Checklist to provide for compliance with safety infection control cleaning procedures and Medical Center policies and procedures.
- Meets with employees after each unscheduled absence and documents appropriately.
- Counsels subordinate staff directly on performance productivity and attendance issues and conducts employee disciplinary procedures as requested by Director of Environmental Services with appropriate documentation according to human resources policy and employee relations laws and guidelines.
- Completes performance evaluations of department employees and submits to Director for approval to provide for timely completion of performance appraisals according to Medical Center policy.
- Assists in the selection of qualified employees for employment according to human resources policy and employee relations laws and guidelines.
- For all managers and supervisors who are responsible to track time & attendance the following responsibility will apply: Accurate and timely approval of paid employee hours through API.
- For all managers and supervisors who are responsible to manage budgets the following responsibility will apply: Monitors expenses according to Standards approved budget and provides timely variance report analysis.
Responsibility III
- Performs inspections and surveys of the Medical Center environment according to the guidelines as specified in the department Quality Assurance plan to provide for appropriate environment Medical Center-wide at all times.
- Performs daily inspections and multiple tours of areas of responsibility.
- Makes recommendations to Director and prepares a remedial plan of action and upon approval implements and provides re-training of personnel when needed.
- Provides for timely and efficient performance of terminal cleaning procedure on all Discharge Units.
Responsibility IV
- Performs inter-departmental and intra-departmental communication as required to provide for the level of service required to meet the environmental needs of the Medical Center.
- Handles all requests for assistance as quickly and efficiently as possible and communicates such requests to the Director and other supervisors.
- Follows-up and checks to ensure compliance with requests.
- Deals expeditiously with any problems and/or complaints impacting day-to-day departmental operations and advises the Director as necessary.
Responsibility V
- Assumes responsibility for maintenance and upkeep of department equipment and supplies.
- Monitors and inspects equipment daily to provide for ongoing clean conditions and proper operation.
- Educates staff on proper use of supplies and equipment as needed.
- Performs proper and accurate labeling and obtains Material Safety Data Sheets as needed.
- Performs proper and accurate identification and M.S.D.S labeling of bottles as needed.
- Procurement: 1. Orders appropriate items and quantities in accordance with established policies and protocols including authorized agent and gift and gratuity policies. 2. Investigates back ordered products and assists in credit hold resolutions. 3. Expedites emergent and urgent orders. Inventory Management: 1. Maintains records of consignment products. 2. Exchanges and reorders products to maintain established par levels and outdated products. 3. Maintains appropriate computer system for new products deleted products and corresponding information.
Responsibility VI
- Communicates with the Director of Environmental Services on a daily basis in order to provide for smooth and efficient departmental operations.
- Establishes daily priorities with the Director of Environmental Services to provide for ultimate departmental productivity.
- Suggests operational improvements to the Director of Environmental Services on an ongoing basis.
Responsibility VII
- Remains current in all aspects of Environmental Services and supervisory skills.
- Attends and actively participates on a regular basis in all department and Medical Center in-service education classes as scheduled.
- Gives in-service to departmental staff on a routine basis.
- Attends and actively participates in all departmental meetings.
Responsibility VIII
- Promotes a safe and efficient working environment by adhering to Medical Center and department policies and procedures.
- Provides education/training programs and maintains documentation of staff attendance.
- Monitors continuously for compliance and takes appropriate counseling or disciplinary action for non-compliance.
- Maintains current on all policies and procedures related to Infection Control Quality Assurance and regulatory requirements.
Responsibility IX
- Tele-Tracking Compliance Standards
- Actively participates in on-going training and coaching of EVS staff with bed tracking.
- Provides necessary tools and information (i.e. pager zones of medical center instruction sheets) to EVS staff so they may utilize bed tracking.
- Maintains and monitors RDE screen and is aware of average clean and turn around time.
- Displays a sense of urgency with clean next and stat bed requests via bed tracking and Admitting Department.
- Utilizes bed tracking 1-5 beginning and end shift instruction sheet.
- Assists EVS staff with log-in and log-out procedures.
- Follows up with EVS staff and units as to tele-tracking compliance and advises the Director as necessary.

- Maintains the confidentiality of employees and departmental information with no infractions.
- Adheres to departmental and Medical Center dress codes as observed by supervisor and wears a VBMC picture identification badge 100% of the time.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Requires one (1) year of college or specialized post-high school training in such areas as Environmental Management courses where educational credits have been received and/or Certificates of Achievement specific to Housekeeping. Certification from N.E.H.A. or Environmental Management Association.
Experience: Requires a minimum of one and up to three years of experience in this and related jobs in the organization. Prior supervisory experience as a Senior Housekeeping Aide. Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
