Laser Programmer creates precise instructions (G-code) using CAD/CAM software to direct computer-controlled machines to cut shape and finish materials like metal plastic or wood. They interpret engineering blueprints select tools determine machine speeds and optimize production processes. They ensure high-quality parts by testing debugging and troubleshooting programs often conducting initial inspections to meet specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Creation: Write edit and maintain complex programs for CNC machines (mills lathes) using CAD/CAM software.
- Blueprint Analysis: Interpret technical blueprints drawings and 3D models to plan the machining process
.
- Tooling Selection: Choose the appropriate cutting tools fixtures and speeds/feeds to optimize production efficiency and precision.
- Troubleshooting: Analyze and correct errors in programs adjust tool offsets and resolve issues during machining.
- Quality Control: Inspect the first-run parts ensuring they meet engineering specifications using measuring tools like micrometers and calipers.
- Collaboration: Work with engineers and machinists to improve manufacturing techniques.
Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in CAD/CAM software (e.g. Mastercam Fusion 360) and G-code.
- Mathematical Skills: Advanced knowledge of algebra trigonometry and geometry for calculating dimensions.
- Blueprint Reading: Expert ability to interpret complex technical drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Mechanical Aptitude: Deep understanding of machining processes materials and machine tool capabilities.
