Position Summary:

The Employee Health nurse is a registered nurse with ambulatory occupational health and community health nursing skills utilized in taking care of the worker.

• Coordinates the tuberculosis surveillance and immunization programs: organizes department employees ensures that all procedures are documented follows-up with employees with problems maintains each departments compliance records and performs tests/immunizations accurately.
• Performs employment history and physical assessment. Makes initial evaluation concerning employees ability to be hired.
• Assesses and treats work-related and non-work-related health problems per protocols and within the scope of nursing practice.
• Identifies and makes appropriate referrals for health problems which are outside the scope of nursing practice.
• Assess educational needs of employees. Demonstrates ability to communicate to employees about pertinent occupational health problems.
• Maintains verbal and written health information about employees in a confidential manner.
• Prepares employees for exams; performs initial functions (i.e. vital signs). Assists NP/MD as needed.
• Serves as a resource to managers and employees. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals in the interdisciplinary fashion to promote quality care for the employee.
• Identifies equipment and supply needs; maintains equipment and supplies.
• Determines the need for prophylactic measures for individuals exposed to communicable disease in consultation with NP/MD or established protocol.
• Presents employee health information to new employees at new employee orientation.
• Documents all pertinent information in the employee health record in an appropriate manner.
• Follows policies procedures and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

None specified; however must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience:

A minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.

Licensure Requirement:

Current Tennessee RN license.
