Job Summary

Description

The Bachelor of Education Program in the School of Education invites applications for sessional faculty to supervise teacher candidates in the role of Faculty Mentor (sessional). The School of Education has multiple positions available the Elementary Education Program. Faculty Mentors work with Teacher Mentors and Teacher Candidates in practica settings to facilitate communication and professional growth. Individuals assist with problem-solving observe students teaching and provide feedback support the team-building process and participate in meetings. Participation will be required for pre-practicum meeting and post-practicum meeting.

Travel costs within Kamloops will be reimbursed.



Requirements
  • A Master of Education or equivalent in a relevant field is required. Equivalent qualifications and/or experience will be considered such as professional qualifications or where the candidate has accumulated experience and accomplishments judged to be particularly relevant and valuable to the discipline. A specific example of an equivalent qualification would be a Master of Arts or Science degree plus five years experience in a professional setting commensurate with the teaching area or professional role in which they will be employed with demonstrated evidence of significant professional development activity over the five-year period.
  • Recent experience as a K-12 teacher is required
  • A minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in the K-12 sector is required
  • Evidence of school or district leadership experience is an asset
  • Experience mentoring and/or supervising student teachers in practica (preferred)
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills is required
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required
  • Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA10) is required
