Description of Work
This posting is for an Engineer I that will serve as the Assistant Resident Engineer at the Elizabeth City Construction Office in Division One. Position will perform the following duties: manage the day to day operations of construction projects. Directly supervise and provide engineering level support for technicians. Provide prompt public relations response to various inquiries from public NCDOT officials and other governmental agencies. Conduct daily coordination with Contractor and NCDOT Project Staff. Make field engineering decisions. Conduct environmental reviews and manage erosion control efforts. Performs Contract Administration (estimates supplemental agreements claims correspondence submittals monthly construction meetings ensures environmental compliance etc). Monitor and resolve traffic control issues as they occur. Coordinate utility relocations. Review materials test results and initiates penalties if required and other duties as assigned.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC16 - $55823 - $97689

Additional Expectations:
Possess working knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and construction methods materials and equipment. Ability to understand explain and administer contracts; interpret construction plans provisions standards and specifications. Ability to train coordinate and supervise subordinate employees. Ability to communicate establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers contractors personnel and the general public. Ability to make Field Engineering Decisions. Ability to perform Contract Administration (estimates supplemental agreements claims correspondence submittals monthly construction meetings ensuring environmental compliance etc.). Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties. Night and weekend work may be required. Must be able to legally operate a State vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
