JOB DESCRIPTION
The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will work within the Special Services department with a special intensive focus on the needs of students with significant behavioral challenges to provide services as outlined in individual education plans (IEPs). This individual is responsible for assisting the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to provide and implement intensive supports for behavior reduction and skill acquisition plans. The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will work under the direction of a BCBA with the goal of supporting an environment where students with challenging behaviors can achieve academic social and emotional learning successes.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
- Mustattach unofficial transcriptproving AA degree or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education including high school required within 30 days of hire.
- RBT Certification or completion of RBT Certification program within six (6) months of hire. This includes documentation of successful completion of an approved 40-hour behavior training program to include classroom online or supervisor-led instruction experiential learning evaluation and assessment required.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- CPI training must be obtained at the next available opportunity. Level I and II required.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding behavior intervention in the school setting.
- Employee must be able to work independently and be a self-starter.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with students parents staff fellow employees and management.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner working toward the common goal of teamwork pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students parents district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job-related activities.
- Must be first-aid certified if required.
- Evidence of strong academic background in grade level content areas of reading writing and math. Candidates may be tested to meet minimum qualifications.
- Must demonstrate effective abilities to communicate with supervisor (BCBA) administration case manager and appropriate others in the school setting.
- Must demonstrate abilities in de-escalation and crisis-prevention techniques physical intervention strategies and restraints.
- Must demonstrate ability to accurately assess emergency situations.
- Abilities to remain calm under pressure.
- Cultural competency: ability to effectively work with diverse populations.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- Previous experience supporting special education students in regular education programs.
- Experience as a special education paraeducator or similar successful experience.
- Previous experience working with disabled children.
- Able to work with students who have learning disabilities in reading writing and math; as well as students with behavior challenges such as impulsivity inattentiveness and distractibility.
- Flexible and able to work in a team situation.
- Positive recommendations and performance evaluations.
- Evidence of excellent attendance punctuality and dependability; evidence of able to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill acquisition programs.
- Support implementation of intensive direct behavior analytic interventions skill acquisition plans and service to appropriate students.
- Provide direct instructional support to students under direction of District BCBA.
- Collect accurate and timely data on student behavior and progress.
- Use evidence-based behavioral strategies.
- Support students with social skills communication and self-regulation.
- Assist with de-escalation and crisis intervention.
- Assist teachers with clerical or instructional tasks.
- Supervise students during recess and transitions.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and efficiently to maintain compliance with state and school district regulations; accurately document activities and occurrences.
- Collaborate with staff and attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required as well as attend any training as directed by management..
- Maintain professional boundaries including the dignity and confidentiality of the student classroom and school setting.
- Provide direct support to special education students in need of remediation accommodations inregular education and special services classrooms.
- Assist students with toileting and diapering as assigned based on student need. Appropriate training will be provided.
- Assist in supervision and control of students to promote a safe orderly positive learning climate.
- Use basic computer programs to maintain records enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
