Job Summary
Introduction
Our client a fast growing Data Centre isseeking a skilled Data Center Colocation Engineer responsible for the design deployment and ongoing management of colocation infrastructure within data centers. This role will be based at the Amanzimtoti Durban Data Centre.
This role involves working with customers vendors and internal teams to ensure optimal performance reliability and efficiency of colocation services.
The engineer will oversee rack space allocation power and cooling requirements cabling network connectivity and security compliance.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan deploy and maintain colocation infrastructure including racks power distribution units (PDUs) cooling systems and structured cabling.
- Coordinate with customers to understand colocation requirements and ensure timely provisioning of services.
- Manage space power and cooling capacity planning to optimize data center resources.
- Work with network and system teams to ensure seamless connectivity and integration of colocation services.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards security policies and operational best practices.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- 3 years of experience in data center operations colocation services or infrastructure management.
- Strong understanding of power distribution cooling systems and structured cabling.
- Experience with network configurations IP addressing and cross-connect setups.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as TIA-942 Uptime Institute Tier Classification and ISO 27001.
- Certifications such as BICSI CDCP or similar are a plus.
- Must be able to work in a data center environment including standing climbing ladders and lifting equipment (up to 25 kgs).
- Ability to work in a 24/7 environment including on-call rotations and emergency response situations.
- Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a focus on uptime and operational efficiency.
