The Military Strategic Headquarters (MSHQ) Senior Security Advisor (SSyA) the MSHQ SSyA is the senior security specialist within the Military Command working across the Defence security community (Defence Security and Resilience (DSR) Cyber Defence and Risk (CyDR) and Defence Intelligence (DI). It is the subject matter expert within the MSHQ functionally coordinating the delivery of security as a capability across the HQ and within the Military Commands. The SSyA works alongside the SSyA in each of the other three Defence Areas in the Reformed Defence Operating Model: Department of State National Armaments Director Group and Defence Nuclear Enterprise. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the four Military Command PSyA and enabling the Military Command Senior Security Risk Coordinators (SSRCs) to conduct effective security risk management within their commands and supporting them delivering security as a capability across the Force. Responsible for security governance risk management and compliance with policy the post integrates physical cyber personnel and people security and wider resilience risk management to reduce security risk exposure. The SSyA works directly to Chief of Staff MSHQ and directly supports VCDS and CDS on all security matters. The individual is a member of the Government Security Profession Security Institute and likely a Chartered Security Professional and has a strong professional network across the respective security disciplines. The role also enables wider Continuing Professional Development within the security community.
Unit Function
MSHQ Central Pillar. The Central Pillar coordinates the supporting functions and governance over the Military Commands.
Position Role:
The SSyA is the senior security specialist in MSHQ responsible for advising commanders and risk owners on all aspects of security providing governance managing security risks and delivery of security assurance. Reports directly to COS MSHQ.
Responsibilities:
- Provision of SME security and resilience advice to CDS VCDS and the CoC including advising on general security matters and security threats.
- Maintain the MSHQs Security Op Model. Operationalisation of security and resilience policy for action by the MSHQ SJC GUARDIAN and Military Commands.
- Producing CDS security risk management policy. Oversee continuous improvement of Security and Resilience.
- Oversight on behalf of CDS of security risk management performance incident reporting and assurance activity being completed by the Military Commands.
- Coordinate the biennial MSHQ SRMB and the CSRCs annual SRM brief to the Board.
- Oversee 1st line security assurance (LSA)of MSHQ 2LSA of the Mil Comds and 3LSA of GDN and DCI. Produce the CDS security AAR.
- Tasking Authority for the PSyAs and GDN as required and providing SME advice to the MSOC.
- Coordination of investigations (as required) into specific security beaches and in accordance with JSP 440 Part 2 Leaflet 1B.
