This is a remote position within the US.
Logistics Manager
The Logistics Manager will be responsible for effective coordination and communication between various sites in the transportation chain including carriers suppliers internal warehouses port terminals and the internal company operations teams. This person will be a point of escalation for logistics and customs issues. To ensure the logistics processes are running smoothly they will meet with department heads to determine logistic improvements to be made. This role will also educate and provide support to the desk Customer Service Representatives by responding to and helping to resolve logistic and customs issues.
Your responsibilities and objectives:
Logistics
Manage the physical and systematic flow of inventory from origin destination through delivery including movement between internal warehouse locations and sample room.
Keep up to date on tariff codes/regulations Ports shipping carriers routes and rates including all modes of freight (LTL FTL truck intermodal rail and ocean).
Track carrier and logistics partner performance in the areas of service damage cost and other scorecard attributes as defined.
Provide input and guidance on selection decisions based on performance results.
Help manage large Warehouse inventory moves where needed.
Monitor analyze and reduce logistics spending including demurrage costs.
Support Operations as needed in different product categories.
Help select carriers and negotiate rates and contracts on larger programs.
Optimization
Assist carriers in process improvement to mitigate future issues.
Track Warehouse inventory levels and report findings and solutions to the Commercial team.
Work in partnership with Warehouse personnel international carriers customs brokers freight forwarders and other logistics business partners and government agencies to facilitate smooth import/export of the product.
Find and implement logistics solutions for new and existing programs including negotiating large program rates to determine the most cost-effective options on most widely used lanes
Actively identify opportunities for improving freight planning and execution processes.
Relationship Management
Create strong working partnerships with internal team members through education effective communication follow-up and accountability.
Ensure Logistics Broker Contracts are signed/updated.
Ensure Division is following the Entrusting Credit line requirements / submission for each warehouse.
Point of escalation for logistics/customs issues to avoid demurrage and extend LFDs
Point of contact for unchartered logistics and/or customs territory.
Problem-solve larger freight damage claims by partnering with internal and external team members as needed.
Drive carrier partners for resolution on individual claims
BA Business Management Economics Logistics or International Business.
At least 5 years of experience in importing items preferably food related.
Hard skills
Knowledge of transportation and customs terminology and documentation
Strong understanding of transportation providers/carriers processes costing and service models
Experience closely working with customer service warehouse operations and/or planning
Warehouse relationship experience
Solid analytical skills and high detail orientation
Candidate should be flexible and able to quickly adjust as the situation changes
Working knowledge of ERP-based systems
Proficiency with MS Office and Excel
Soft Skills
Ability to problem-solve meet deadlines and effectively escalate issues to the appropriate individuals
High negotiations skills on rates as well as conflict resolution
Able to handle stressful situations and deadline pressures well
Effective communication skills both written and verbal are necessary due to significant interactions and coordination with multiple internal and external groups
Role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
High level of initiative and ability to work well in a team environment
Bilingual Spanish speaking
