Description
Menlo School seeks an Upper School Journalism teacher starting in August 2026. This is an opportunity to teach highly motivated students and also build on the journalism programs strong foundation as adviser to The Coat of Arms Menlos award-winning student newspaper. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of teaching experience and a background as a newspaper reporter editor or professional in a related media field.
The position may be structured as a part-time role (teaching one section of Introductory Journalism and one section of Advanced Journalism) or as a full-time position (four sections total) for a candidate who can also teach additional courses within Menlos core curriculum.
In addition to teaching journalism courses the new teacher will serve as faculty advisor to The Coat of Arms mentoring student editors and writers while supervising the publications five print editions and expanding digital and multimedia presence. Superior judgment strong ethical grounding and the ability to thoughtfully guide students through complex editorial decisions are essential to this role but so is a belief in the importance of student journalism.

Pay range:
In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position for the 2026-2027 academic year. Our Faculty have a wide range of experience. We have teachers who are relatively new to the profession and those who have expertly taught for over 30 years. The full pay range for a full-time position is $97000-$182000 encompassing all experience levels. Within this broad range we pay each Faculty member in accordance with what is reasonably expected given an individuals experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits employer contributions to retirement plans and potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills education experience job level part-time status and the number of months worked per academic addition to those factors we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please note that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the top of the range is not typical at Menlo School to allow for future and continued salary growth.
