Job Summary (in List Format):
- Assists surgeon and registered nurse during surgical procedures by performing technical functions under direct supervision.
- Prepares operating room with surgical instruments equipment sterile drapes and solutions.
- Maintains a sterile environment per hospital policy and AORN Standards of Care.
- Performs scrub technician duties for all surgical services and specialties.
- Assembles adjusts and maintains sterile and non-sterile equipment.
- Passes instruments and supplies to surgical team during procedures.
- Holds retractors cuts sutures and assists with counting sponges needles and instruments.
- Prepares and handles specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Assists with application of surgical dressings.
- Ensures necessary instruments and equipment are available per surgeon protocol and preference cards.
- Assists in patient transport and positioning in the operating room.
- Understands and applies appropriate sterilization methods for equipment.
- Operates sterilizers lights suction and diagnostic equipment as needed.
- Safely prepares and labels medications during procedures under supervision.
- Assists in transferring patients to recovery and in room turnover/restocking as needed.
- Maintains patient privacy dignity and safety at all times.
- Provides a safe and supportive environment for surgical patients.
- Helps orient new operating room staff as required.
- Works collaboratively with RNs to maintain and update equipment/instrumentation.
- Participates in staff meetings in-service and educational programs for professional growth.
- Delivers excellent service to patients families and colleagues in line with hospital values.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read write and communicate in English.
- Graduate of an accredited Operating Room/Surgical Technician program.
- National Certification (NBSTSA) required within 12 months of graduation and must be maintained.
- Certification must be from a recognized agency (NCCA-accredited and recognized by ACS and AST).
- Current BLS Certification required.
- Orthopedic surgical experience strongly preferred.
