Job Title: Optometry Technician
Location: Soldier Readiness Processing Center (SRP) William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) 18511 Highlander Medics St Fort Bliss TX 79906 and outlying clinics.
Tentative Start Date: 1 April 2026
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 0500-1630 (SRP operational hours). Up to 48 mission-driven overage hours per FTE may be required annually beyond regularly scheduled duty hours as authorized by the Government.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED; Completion of an optometric technician course or formal optometric on the job training or training and certification obtained through the Army Navy or Air Force Optometry Technician program.
Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience within the last two (2) years working as an Optometry Technician or Ophthalmic Technician in a clinical or medical setting.
Experience performing vision screening tests and collecting preliminary eye examination data.
Experience assisting optometrists during eye examinations and readiness-related vision assessments.
License / Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or Red Cross) required.
Other Requirements: U.S. Citizenship required.
Responsibilities:
Support Soldier Readiness Processing (SRP) vision operations by assisting with optometry services for service members undergoing mobilization demobilization redeployment and separation.
Perform preliminary vision testing including visual acuity measurements color vision screening depth perception testing and other readiness-related optometry screenings as directed.
Collect and record patient history information related to vision and eye health prior to provider examination.
Prepare service members for optometry evaluations by positioning patients and operating diagnostic equipment as directed.
Assist optometrists during eye examinations by operating screening instruments and supporting examination flow.
Prepare clean and reset optometry examination rooms and equipment between patients to support high-volume SRP throughput.
Escort service members through optometry processing stations and ensure timely movement through SRP vision workflows.
Accurately document assigned screening results and support activities in MHS GENESIS or other Government-designated systems as directed.
Support surge optometry operations during peak MOB/DEMOB cycles including extended duty hours when mission required.
