Job Title: Professional Structural Engineer

Location: Johannesburg
(No relocations will be considered) Primary Position Purpose The Professional Structural Engineer is responsible for providing professional structural engineering services on projects within the department and supporting the Finance Manager Department Manager Office Manager and other Professionals/Consultants in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects. The role requires strong technical expertise sound commercial awareness and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high professional and quality standards.
Minimum Requirements Qualifications Skills & Experience -
Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited university

Relevant Professional Registration

Minimum 10 years professional experience

Minimum 2 3 years post-professional registration experience
-
Strong report writing and technical documentation skills
-
Professional presentation and delivery to uphold the companys brand and image
-
Courteous professional and business-oriented communication style
-
Cooperative and flexible approach with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
-
Sound project financial knowledge including budgeting forecasting and invoicing
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities The Professional Structural Engineer will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Technical & Design Responsibilities -
Undertake conceptual and detailed design development on multiple complex projects

Provide efficient and practical structural engineering solutions that meet project requirements
-
Deliver high-quality structural detailed designs using relevant design software and first-principle hand calculations to verify results
-
Develop and continuously improve design quality and technical capability
-
Draft technical reports of an acceptable technical and presentational standard
-
Provide sound technical solutions and demonstrate a clear understanding of design outcomes
-
Check review and take responsibility for the work of others
Project & Commercial Management -
Assist with budgets resourcing and outsourcing of work within the department
-
Develop an understanding of the commercial aspects of project management
-
Assist in project financial management including budgeting forecasting revenue recognition and invoicing
-
Draft and implement Works Authorisations and Variation Orders with line manager approval
-
Provide support in verifying sub-consultant invoices
-
Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
-
Indirectly responsible for controlling specific project budgets
Leadership & Team Management -
Assign work to team members and ensure effective utilisation of resources
-
Coordinate tasks and manage staff across multiple projects
-
Mentor and support graduate engineers
-
Supervise Engineers and Technicians during inspections and checks of constructed works for compliance with designs and specifications
-
Monitor construction works and propose remedial actions where required
Client & Business Development -
Communicate with clients on general project matters
-
Present and represent technical work and service offerings to potential clients
-
Develop and maintain strong client relationships to ensure high levels of client satisfaction
-
Identify and follow through on opportunities for additional work on existing projects
-
Assist with marketing business development and identifying upcoming client projects
-
Support the department in winning and delivering new projects and repeat business
Quality & Compliance -
Ensure quality assurance throughout the full project life cycle

Manage and coordinate sub-consultants
-
Provide technical support to other departments as required
Tendering & Proposals -
Draft responses to straightforward bids (with commercial input from management)

Assist with the submission of EOIs RFQs tenders and proposals
-
Provide technical input into large infrastructure projects as required
