Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) provides skilled nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia. This role involves patient monitoring medication administration pain management and ensuring a safe and comfortable recovery environment. The RN collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities:
- Perform patient assessments upon arrival in the PACU including vital signs pain levels and level of consciousness.
- Administer medications as prescribed including pain medications anti-emetics and other necessary drugs.
- Monitor patients for complications such as respiratory distress bleeding or changes in vital signs.
- Implement and manage pain control strategies.
- Collaborate with physicians anesthesiologists and other healthcare team members to provide coordinated care.
- Document patient care accurately and completely in the electronic health record (Cerner).
- Respond to emergency situations and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding post-operative care.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment in the PACU.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an RN.
- BLS ACLS and PALS certifications.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Previous experience in a Level I trauma center.
Special Considerations:
- On-call responsibilities are required.
- Limited RTO (Request Time Off) is allowed ideally no more than 5 days.
- The client may call off up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay.
- Being placed on-call counts as a called-off shift.
Scheduling:
- Mid shift: 1045-2315.
