We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to join our team. This role involves managing financial operations specific to construction projects ensuring compliance with industry standards and providing accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform contract accounting using the percentage-of-completion (POC) method including accurate revenue recognition and reporting
- Set up and maintain customer contracts and project/job records in the accounting system
- Review and process vendor invoices with accurate coding proper documentation and required approvals
- Prepare and submit progress billings in accordance with contract terms and timelines
- Compile track and maintain complete billing support packages including:
- Schedules of Values (SOVs)
- Lien waivers and lien-related compliance documentation
- Other contractually required backup and supporting documents
- Reconcile job costs billings and revenue recognition identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Maintain organized accurate and audit-ready accounting documentation and project files
- Partner with Project Managers and internal teams to resolve billing cost coding and contract issues
- Support month-end close activities related to contract accounting reporting and reconciliations
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in contract accounting specifically using the POC method
- Strong knowledge of job cost accounting and progress billing processes
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal oversight
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (reconciliations reporting analysis)
- Required: Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Experience in construction manufacturing or other project-based accounting environments
- Familiarity with lien laws and compliance documentation requirements
