About the role

We are recruiting for a large privately owned European technology company operating multiple high-traffic consumer platforms across several markets. Their products are used daily by millions of users and engineering and data are central to the companys strategy.

As a Junior Backend Engineer youll learn how to build and operate robust scalable backend systems at the heart of how data is structured processed and used at scale. Youll take later on meaningful ownership of services that must remain fast secure and highly available - even as traffic patterns shift data volumes grow and requirements evolve across multiple markets and platforms.

Tasks

In this role you will:

• Build evolve and operate backend services that power a large-scale consumer platform with a strong focus on high availability low latency and predictable performance under heavy load.
• Design and implement well-structured APIs and service boundaries balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability.
• Own components end-to-end: from design and implementation through deployment monitoring and incident follow-up with a mindset of continuous improvement.
• Use AWS as a core part of your toolkit making thoughtful decisions around scalability resiliency security and cost.
• Improve reliability and observability through testing instrumentation alerting and runbooks and by reducing recurring operational issues.
• Collaborate closely with engineers and partners to clarify requirements make trade-offs explicit and deliver changes safely in a complex environment.
• Help strengthen the engineering function by contributing to shared patterns documentation and everyday practices - and by supporting junior engineers through reviews and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Some hands-on backend development experience in C# contributing to production or near-production services under guidance from more senior engineers.
• 1-3 years experience
• Exposure to AWS in real projects or learning environments with a basic understanding of how cloud-based systems are designed deployed and operated.
• Experience building or contributing to REST APIs with an understanding of security scalability and clean service design. Experience with microservices is a plus but not required.
• Basic knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL including how data is modeled and accessed. Any exposure to messaging or event-driven systems like Kafka is a bonus not a must.
• Familiarity with containers and modern delivery practices such as Docker CI/CD pipelines and automation even if mostly through collaboration or learning-by-doing.
• A developing software engineering mindset showing care for code quality testing code reviews and learning about monitoring and observability.
• Willingness to take ownership of tasks ask questions when things are unclear and make sensible decisions with support when information is incomplete.
• Clear and respectful communication openness to feedback and a collaborative attitude when working with teammates from different backgrounds and levels of experience.
