Position Summary

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) provides expert perioperative patient care in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR). This role functions as a scrub assistant to the physician during operative and invasive procedures and works under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The CST serves as a role model and resource for other staff while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program

Licensure / Certifications

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA or NCCT
BLS (American Heart Association) required

Experience

1 year of Cardiovascular (open heart) or Vascular experience preferred

Experience Levels

New Graduate: < 1 year
Surg Tech I: 1 year
Surg Tech II: 2 4 years
Surg Tech III: 5 years

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a resource specialist for assigned OR area or specialty service
Demonstrate expert knowledge of aseptic technique and advanced surgical procedures
Prepare and verify availability and functionality of instruments supplies and equipment based on surgeon preference cards
Assist surgeons during elective and emergency CVOR procedures
Ensure safe accurate and efficient patient care in accordance with policies and standards
Manage time supplies and resources effectively
Support professional development through continuing education and skills competency
Serve as preceptor mentor and educator for less experienced staff
Model service standards by providing safe compassionate and personalized care
