Job Title: Med-Surg RN
Location: Portales NM
Job Description:
The Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care in a medical-surgical setting. This role involves communicating effectively with physicians nurse managers and healthcare team members regarding changes in patient condition diagnostic results and treatment responses. The RN must respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient status and perform general nursing duties across departments with appropriate supervision.
Essential Functions:
  • Promote the mission vision and values of the organization.
  • Deliver patient care based on age-specific standards including pediatric geriatric and general populations.
  • Perform comprehensive head-to-toe assessments and reassessments per policy.
  • Modify standards of care based on patient response and evaluate care plans daily.
  • Develop and implement patient and family education plans and evaluate learning effectiveness.
  • Assess and manage pain; educate patients and families on pain management strategies.
  • Perform treatments and nursing services within scope of licensure.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with nurse managers physicians and coworkers.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to meet patient needs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform technical and manual nursing skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility organization and the ability to work effectively under stress.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Address psychosocial cultural ethnic and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients families physicians and healthcare providers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with standards and policies.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care as appropriate.
  • Safely operate and manage medical equipment.
Professional Requirements:
  • Maintain professional appearance and adhere to dress code.
  • Complete required annual education and training.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wear required identification while on duty.
  • Comply with all state federal and local regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold ethical standards and represent the organization professionally.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
Qualifications:
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New Mexico.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices and patient care.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make sound clinical decisions in complex situations.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to manage challenging interactions professionally.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Ability to work irregular hours including on-call shifts.
  • Physically demanding high-stress healthcare environment.
  • Exposure to blood body fluids communicable diseases chemicals radiation and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to push pull lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Full range of body motion including lifting and positioning patients.
  • Frequent reaching bending stooping handling objects speaking hearing and visual acuity.
