Job Description:
The Laboratory Technician performs clinical laboratory testing as a generalist in a safe environment that supports good laboratory practices. This role requires the ability to function across all areas of the clinical laboratory including blood bank chemistry hematology microbiology serology/immunology urinalysis and phlebotomy. Routine phlebotomy services are performed as needed.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Promote the mission vision and values of the organization.
- Process specimens perform laboratory tests and report accurate test results.
- Perform high-complexity testing as authorized and within scope of education training and experience.
- Follow established procedures for specimen handling testing reporting and recordkeeping.
- Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing is conducted in the same manner as patient testing.
- Adhere to quality control policies; document quality control activities calibrations and equipment maintenance.
- Follow established procedures when test systems fall outside acceptable performance limits.
- Identify issues affecting test performance or result reporting and correct them or escalate appropriately.
- Document corrective actions taken when performance specifications are not met.
- Use age-appropriate communication methods for phlebotomy and laboratory customer service.
- Assist with monitoring inventory of supplies reagents and test kits.
- Communicate critical test results according to laboratory policy.
- Interact professionally with laboratory leadership clinical staff coworkers and healthcare customers.

Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelors degree (or higher) in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution or compliance with CLIA testing personnel qualifications.
- Certification or registration through ASCP AMT NCA or U.S. Department of HHS/HEW.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).

- Complete required annual education and training.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Wear required identification while on duty.
