Job Summary

Job Title: Lab Tech
Location: Portales NM

Job Description:
The Laboratory Technician performs clinical laboratory testing as a generalist in a safe environment that supports good laboratory practices. This role requires the ability to function across all areas of the clinical laboratory including blood bank chemistry hematology microbiology serology/immunology urinalysis and phlebotomy. Routine phlebotomy services are performed as needed.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Promote the mission vision and values of the organization.
Process specimens perform laboratory tests and report accurate test results.
Perform high-complexity testing as authorized and within scope of education training and experience.
Follow established procedures for specimen handling testing reporting and recordkeeping.
Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing is conducted in the same manner as patient testing.
Adhere to quality control policies; document quality control activities calibrations and equipment maintenance.
Follow established procedures when test systems fall outside acceptable performance limits.
Identify issues affecting test performance or result reporting and correct them or escalate appropriately.
Document corrective actions taken when performance specifications are not met.
Use age-appropriate communication methods for phlebotomy and laboratory customer service.
Assist with monitoring inventory of supplies reagents and test kits.
Communicate critical test results according to laboratory policy.
Interact professionally with laboratory leadership clinical staff coworkers and healthcare customers.

Qualifications:

Associate or bachelors degree (or higher) in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution or compliance with CLIA testing personnel qualifications.
Certification or registration through ASCP AMT NCA or U.S. Department of HHS/HEW.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
