Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus is seeking a full-time Anthropology faculty member in the Department of Sociology Anthropology and Criminal Justice beginning August 2026. Although the position is located primarily at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus teaching may be required at the Rockville Campus. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism a strong commitment to our students and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. Montgomery College provides an excellent opportunity to teach in a large urban community college setting. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

These many options improve access for our busy students. Students enrolled in anthropology courses routinely transfer to some of the most prestigious colleges and universities throughout the country including the University of Maryland College Park University of Maryland Baltimore County and Towson University. Montgomery College anthropology faculty are also actively engaged in a number of student support and co-curricular initiatives as evidenced by their efforts in the development of OER/z-cost instructional material embedded advising and the Social Sciences Expo which exposes students to a wide array of curricular and career pathways in the social sciences.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teach Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology and other anthropology courses as appropriate (e.g. Human Evolution and Archaeology Introduction to Archaeology and World Cultures).
  • Teach 30 semester hours of courses per academic year related to anthropology.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include day evening weekend online winter summer and/or accelerated sections.
  • Serve as the anthropology coordinator for the department.
  • Serve on or lead department discipline campus or college-wide committees including the Anthropology Advisory Committee.
  • Engage students in their learning through active collaborative learning approaches.
  • Engage in student outreach events to increase visibility of anthropology and to improve the learning outcomes of students taking anthropology classes.
  • Incorporate the use of educational enterprise platforms such as Blackboard Ultra into instruction including zero-cost resources in the development and delivery of instruction.
  • Collaborate with other anthropology faculty to coordinate and award micro-credentials to anthropology students.
  • Communicate with anthropology faculty on other campuses to ensure a consistent student learning experience.
  • Implement embedded advising and/or embedded classroom support services.
  • Advise students about discipline course offerings honors program Rookie Research scholarships/opportunities in anthropology internships Badging General Studies Degree Program Ethnic Social Studies Certificate Program Womens Studies Certificate transfer opportunities and careers in anthropology.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities related to pedagogy and best practices for teaching anthropology and student success.
  • Participate as an active member of the anthropology discipline (e.g. American Anthropological Association) to keep well-informed within the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree in Anthropology (graduate coursework must include courses that reflect both depth and breadth in Anthropology) or a related discipline.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level (e.g. associates bachelors or masters-level teaching); teaching done as a graduate student or as a teaching assistant will be considered.
  • The ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching using a variety of delivery methods online resources and technology applications across the curriculum.
  • Evidence of a commitment to supporting or enhancing student success initiatives that further student retention and graduation (e.g. OER advising).
  • Evidence of innovative curriculum development to serve diverse student populations.
  • Must be able to work in a multicultural environment that reflects our student body and be sensitive to the educational needs of a culturally diverse population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Anthropology.
  • Experience using various teaching modalities/formats (e.g. seat-based blended

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Experience with committees advisory groups volunteer experience or integrated services

Hiring Range: $63254 - $96299.
